To tell the truth, as far as the color go. I'd like a little lighter myself,,, but I'm thinking of a change every so often as to keep the Board different and New looking and now Stagnant.
Anyone have any complaints to me changing the color scheme once in a while for a change of scenery?
The only way to find out what will work is to play with the various color schemes
When someone complains about a certain color you have up, make a note of it and tweak it a different way
Yet at the same time, keep up with what colors the people say that they DO like
We'll get it figured out and you are doing a fine job getting there
"Do we put in a reward system in which someone, member or staff, can rate the quality of the post. This might include a thumbs up-thumbs down system, or points of some kind. I don't think we've reached agreement on that question yet."
No ratings should be given by staff members IMO
Now a 'thumbs up'/'thumbs down' thingy that ALL posters can click on would be more appropriate
As for MODS, I don't think we should interfere in debates/discussions unless it escalates and personal insults get thrown around that has nothing to do with topic at hand Then that is when a MOD should step in and delete said insult and advise the poster to 'stay on topic'
Fine, the ideal world is to let each poster pick his own theme? Guohua, there's a plugin on page 8 of the library that looks like it might do the job. It's called something like "Theme Changer." Just spotted it, and it might be an end to individuals' problems with colors.
I don't think it costs anything, but if it works, even 1 key is worth spending. A super key? Probably, but we'll have to see.
I can get to it starting about noon to 2 p.m. tomorrow.
That might work if it's not too much of a hassle
It's hard to please everyone when it comes to what appeals to the eye for easy reading
Even if it's just 5 or 6 color choices, that would give the members something to play with on their own
Plus guohua won't have to worry about playing around with it anymore!!! LOL And could focus her attention else where.... Like fixing us a drink
FWIW if this becomes a huge issue users of Firefox can install an extension that let's them customize a web site according to their own preferences. It's called "Color that site"
It looks like our colors and our rewards are well on the way to being solved.
How do we encourage the members who don't post, or maybe post three times a week?
Offer free Margaritas!!! (rofl)
Seriously, those kind of members will exist and there may not be anything we can to to entice them to participate more
I noticed on 'TOS' members with few posts but have been there for 2-3 years or longer Even with their reward system it doesn't help those that just don't want to post Many may like to read rather than contribute...
GuoHua . . . never mind about the PW. Got it reset etc. The problem was that the PW that applied was the one I started with . . . with the other ProBoard site. That's why I couldn't find it under Hernando's in my listing. Now it is cross listed.
Not sure if the blue one was made into a theme it was just one that's been applied to the site for a couple of days. Anyway what's really important is this is my 50th post so I should get a plank right?
What exactly is a plank anyway, I always thought it was a piece of wood.

My main interest in the layout question is "How does it impact on the problem of catching up with what's been happening during my absence?"
At the moment, my quick fix is clicking on Recent Posts at the bottom of the page and working back a few hours, which is manageable until the site gets bigger.
It would be helpful if the "last post in the thread" option were available more often.
On the current arrangement, it's a case of "What you gain on the swings, you lose on the roundabouts" (I'm not sure if there's an American translation for that).
On the Home page, on the one hand, the "last post" option is available for all the visible threads, but only the most recently updated thread in each main division is visible.
If you go down into one of the main divisions, all its threads are visible, but all we get under "last post" is the less useful option to click on the last poster's profile (which I keep doing by mistake). The nearest equivalent to "last post" is moving left and clicking on the highest page number.
If the genuine "last post" option were available at that level as well, the "catching-up" process would be easier.
1.) The colors are fine right now. White or light gray background with a good choice of colors for the lettering. Love the way it's now, hated the stripes and the light blue format with white lettering, my eyes appreciate this simple format tremendously !!
2.) I find it complicated to find things or new posts. Then again, this problem is not a your problem type of problem, I think, it's a my problem type of problem as I only spend so much time on the Forum as real life permits and I find that even though I normally use the Participated button on the right hand top to see what new posts have been added, and I still have to get to understand some of the features of this Forum. But it's hard to keep track..
3.) I'm all for a rewards system. Thumbs up showing who appreciated a post is great. I'm not for a thumbs down and certainly not if it shows who did NOT like a post. A rewards system for participation is neat but a rewards system or a certain title for members who become shining examples of how a member should behave could also be an idea, even though the member in question is not on the forum 16 hours a day adding to his participation ratio. Just an idea...

Thank you, now that's what I visualized as a plank. And you customized it for me!
Now that you have that color extension I should probably fess up to you and AlRen that I've never used it before (well maybe once.) In my defense it was a recommended plugin (by someone, forgot who.) :)
Now I'll have to try it out. Need more coffee.

A "Plank Owner" is a Navy custom. The first crew to sail on a brand new ship are called Plank Owners of that ship. ("Plank" from the days that ships had wooden decks,)

You're kidding me?? really?
Man I spent a good hour or longer messing with it
In fact, I forgot about it today and when I logged on I was like WTH? Thought guohua was playing tricks on me again. LOL
Well, I recommend that YOU try using what YOU recommended to us......[wait, what??]
Seriously useful toy
Oh, just make sure you guys click onto 'site' overall, other wise you'll just change 1 page, like I accidentally did with my "message" page [which ended up being dark with light text...pretty cool actually, so I left it like that]
