The deadliest species on Earth truth be told

Oh my gosh, I am once again reminded why I love this place.

Over the years I've had quite a few Phobias that I could trace back to the source, Dogs are one and bugs that jump and have those clackety grab on legs, like June bugs and crickets in particular.

The dog thing came from a dog my Grandparents had when I was a toddler who would grab ahold of my clothing and pull me around. I still get a bit uncomfortable around unfamiliar dogs but it's not as bad as it used to be.

Crickets took quite a bit longer to deal with and I'm ok with them around as long as they don't actually jump on me. My cricket story began one fine spring day in the large garden my Grandfather had. In this garden there was a large sand pile that was used to amend the soil just before spring planting. This particular year I was riding around in the wheel barrow and he set me down next to this sand pile and as he took the first shovel full the hidden nest of crickets came pouring out. I have no idea how many there were but I was covered in a second. So completely covered that my Grandpa had to dunk me in the pool to get them to let go. So yes crickets...*shivers.

I do have two phobia that remain fairly severe. The first is speaking or singing in public. I'm working on that one.

The second, like Mr. G, are dark deep closed bodies of water. This one I don't have plans to work on any time soon.

Yours is snakes aye?

Growing up, near my grandmothers house there were always tons of snakes, the small garden variety, but lots of them nonetheless.

Anyway, my brother being the meany he was, would gather up handfuls of them and put them down the back of my shirt! YUCK!

But my fear is of heights. I am afraid of heights to the point of freezing and being unable to move even on the second rung of a ladder. For me, my feets stay on the ground. If I have to get into a plane for any reason, which I do sincerely avoid like a plague, the doctor gives me valium for it!

lol... totally funny. I don't like mice, and once my son killed a mouse, and then proceeded to show it to me... He said here mom look, while I was doing the dishes, so I turned my head to see whatever, and there is a mouse like an inch from my face.

I screamed so hard I peed my pants over that one!

I'll be sure to ask if I need help, thank you very much for the offer. I think mainly with anything new, its hit or miss til you work it all out!

I have a friend who's exactly like that. He somehow managed to work for this cable company and had to climb up ladders against electricity poles, to change wiring...for a few days before he quit. I am still wondering how he managed. Climbing on a chair kills him...

I'm glad to see you got over your fear of mice. I think it had something to do with the discovery that they can't chew through combat boots - as long as said boots were firmly in the middle of a bed, 3 feet off the ground.

You can hold out indefinitely like that, right?

For me it's spiders - or anything with just more legs than nature ought to allocate to one critter. Centipedes come to mind as well.

Unfortunately, water is NOT one of my phobias. I can't swim a lick, but have no fear of water, even hundreds of feet deep. I dunno why, it just don't panic me. Dad used to just shake his head and say "that right there is a BAD combination, boy."
