So, it is nice to share the positive things in life sometimes, too. Whatever good things. Accomplishments, found some cash in a pocket that you forgot about, whatever things that made your day brighter.
Mine, to start, is that I made dinner (multiple ingredient dinners at that) for two nights in a row now and both Quin and I are still alive. Russ is away for the week in Massachusetts for some training and he enjoys cooking (it is how he unwinds/de-stresses) so he does almost all of the cooking for us. This works out well, because I hate cooking.
Quin was getting a bit condescending while helping me make dinner and I had to remind her not to mistake the fact that I don't like to cook for thinking that I can't cook. I am actually pretty good at it, and when I do cook, it tastes really good. I just don't like doing it. When it comes to seasoning what Russ is cooking, I absolutely LOVE to do that, and I am very good at it, I just don't enjoy the cooking part.
But, two days down and two meals cooked and no injuries or inedible food. Just 3 more to go.
That's awesome! I,too like to stay a safe distance away from all kitchens. In fact, I have a sign in mine that says "This Kitchen Is Closed Due To Illness; I'm Sick Of Cooking".
I love to bake; but just thinking about the number of dirty dishes a recipe will generate is usually enough to make me opt for a bowl of cereal instead.
Today's good thing was a call from my dad this morning saying that he and my mom had decided that they were going to grill out for dinner and wanted to know if Quin and her shadow (as my dad refers to her BF, Dillin) and I wanted to come over for dinner. Of course I promptly said yes. We got there and found out that they were grilling ribeye steaks and having asparagus and carrots and mashed potatoes with cake and ice cream for dessert. It was phenomenal!
Another meal down and Quin and I are still alive. Success! Tomorrow night's dinner is pretty easy, too, so we should be good until Russ gets back. I'm rather happy with how my meals have turned out so far.
rickymouse, When I cook, it might as well be, at least it feels just about as mysterious sometimes.
On the plus side, Russ got home earlier than he was anticipating tonight and arrived just after I had gotten dinner in the oven and was able to have dinner with us tonight.
I can cook as well but my wife's so much better at it I stay away when need be I've made some really delicious meals but my wife's Cuban cooking is so much better especially when her mom is in town I love the food!!
Today was a very good day. Russ was really tired from all of the driving, so he didn't stay up long after dinner yesterday, but today we just had a nice family day. We didn't go anywhere or do anything special, just spent the day together as a family and relaxed. It was so nice.
Yay for me! I got my repaired computer back and I am so happy. Online is my connection to the outside world lately since I got sick and have a harder time getting out and about and I was missing being online. It is nice to be back on my own computer.
My good thing for today is being alive. Yesterday we had really bad storms all day and then at about 8 p.m. the tornado siren went off. We knew there was a possibility that it might happen - the weather services were warning about it all day - so we had all of the usual stuff we keep in the basement for emergencies checked and confirmed and also had our "go bags" that we prepare for grabbing once the sirens start all ready. So, the sirens go off and we grabbed our bags, dog ran into his carrier (it's his "safe space" area) and we latched it and grabbed the dog and got to the basement. At this point, the power had been out for 45 minutes or so already (and stayed out until about 2:45 a.m.).
We were watching on the front porch as it came in, but the rain was so heavy we couldn't even see it to know that it was getting close. As we were watching, the tree in the neighbors across the street's yard snapped near the base (and this was a pretty big tree, too) and ripped the power line down out of the transformer and off of wherever it connected across the street. Since this was just a few feet from our house, we jumped back inside and knew that the sirens would be starting any minute. As we were closing the door, we heard them start.
Ultimately, we were fine and the only damage that we had were some tiger lilies in the flower bed in front of my front porch got flattened by the wind. Even luckier, Quin's boyfriend, Dillin, and his family were fine. The tornado touched down just across the street from their house. It was only about 3 football fields distance between them and the touch down. For being that close, they had two snapped trees and they lost a bunch of shingles, but otherwise had no real damage. They still didn't have power earlier today and we were getting ready to go to my parent's house and Dillin was coming with, so he ended up packing a bag and bathing over at our house before we left. I don't know if they had gotten it restored by the time we dropped him off this evening at 8:30-ish, but it didn't look like it.
So, now I am happy and grateful that we came through it safe and unharmed and with no damage.
Glencairn, How scary that must be! I don't know if I could live in tornado country. We get small twisters around here that occasionally touch down, with minor damage once in a while- but you'd probly call them a 'circular breeze'.
It is! The weather is definitely not why we stay here. The past two days has been pretty amazing seeing the community come together to help with cleanup and repairs.
So, we took some time and spent a few weeks letting Quin practice her driving and getting more confidence. She decided she was ready to go take her road test today. She came back in after the test with the biggest cheesiest grin on her face, so I was pretty sure that she passed. The lady that she drove with this time told her that she did all but one thing exactly right and the one thing wrong wasn't wrong, just something to practice and be aware of. She had to drive through a one lane tunnel and she edged a little close to the line, but otherwise she did everything great.
Now I have a minion that I can send to the store and let drive herself across town to work. Maybe. I am all about the anxiety and I might just have her practice with me for a little bit longer before sending her out adventuring on her own. But, in a pinch, she is licensed and able to drive herself around! Finally.
She was so excited, she carted it around with her all last night and most of the day today. She was so proud to be able to go show it to Dr. Z (the veterinarian that she works/interns for) because he always encourages her and she lets her know how proud he is of her when she achieves something.
