While waiting for Tech Bunny, who can solve anything, I think I'll go see if I can mess it up any further. My hand is steady, I haven't had any coffee yet. :)
I got lucky on this one. I went into Admin and looked at the plugins. One of our very first plugins was the reply button in posts and quick reply. There was another one installed recently. Throw one out and voila!

Say, Solarius, it's too bad you live on the coast. I expect to be going to Winnipeg within the next week to ten days. The weatherman says it's above freezing there, or will be in a couple of days. What's wrong? Why don't you send that down to us?
Even if you did break it, no hard feelings. Spread your wings! Grow! Gain confidence! Try stuff! That way you'll be able to train others.

Especially with the plugins, if you install one and it starts your computer on fire, you can always hit the little "x" to the side of it, that deletes it.
If you see one that uses a super key, you should know that we have one left. We can buy more, but why spend money we don't have. When a plugin that costs a key or super key is deleted, we get the key back.
I'd ask that everyone just please remember....this is a production site, not a development environment and according to Charles? We're on a tightrope without a net here in terms of backups or the ability to fully restore from an 'oops'.
When in doubt, please be careful with the trial and error? I'm a pretty good tech bunny, but there are lines which I can't get us back from if something throws a serious glitch.
Just my two carrots for a public service announcement. :)
I was going to create a throwaway member account to play with things like "blocks" and "bans" and see what they did, how it worked, and if they could be retracted...
I decided not to, because if the "ban" banned an IP, I would ban my sock member, myself, AND Grace, and not be able to get back at all to fix it.
I thought to myself, "Self," I says, " that just wouldn't be funny a'tall!"

Yes, I can "un-ban" a member. But if we're looking at banning, we're looking at a group decision.
Wrabbit is right. I've checked a couple of times with ProBoards. The word is that they will begin working on a data recovery system sometime in the future. Even then, they are planning on charging anyone who wants data recovered.
Right now, if you delete something, anything, it's completely gone.
Charles1952, The idea came from an incident where i nearly banned myself already, playing with the buttons right after i found them. It proceeded along the lines of "I wonder what would happened happened if..." But no, I had no intention of unilaterally banning anyone but my own sock account if I had created one.
As a matter of fact, if left to my own devices, I'd never ban anyone at all. It will be hard enough to just get me to edit a post. that was one of my gripes at TOS. Mods would come along and zap a post when I thought it ought to be left standing as it was, as a monument to stupidity. There was actually one case where I quoted a post I knew was going to be zapped, replied to the post, and then put in the caveat "mods - please don't delete this post. it's a monument to stupidity". Sure enough, they zapped the original post, but didn't take the quote of it out of mine, and it is there to this day.
I think the only way I would even edit a post would be at the request of the poster, or after a complaint of "offense". Some posts ARE offensive in general, but if their target isn't offended enough to complain, I'm disposed to let it stand.
So no, I don't think I'll be going all ban-happy... unless those options are just too close together again and I zig when I should have zagged. It's good to know you can un-whomp that if I do.

@ninurta,
I've offered to edit a post if a member double posts, usually they say fine, axe it. (Once I did it without asking! I'm a wild one, I am.) I also stepped in once when a posted video showed a brief display of a topless woman, but even then, I asked the poster to edit it out, and he did.
This post is also a test of the recent threads box.

You know how many posters at 'TOS' will use 'Obummer' in a comment?
Well one day last year after using that term myself over & over, I got a 'Warning' with my comment deleted I asked the members with whom was in that thread if they could remember me posting anything offensive and they all said no
So that was one of the few times I u2u the MOD and asked what I had done wrong Their reply was 'Obummer' was against T&C (one of the rules, not sure which) I was like WTH in my mind, but said 'okay thanks, just wanted to know so I don't do it again'
To this day, I notice people still post Obummer Think it was probably because that particular MOD was pro-Obama and didn't care for that usage
Never did understand why they deleted the whole post instead of just correcting the word itself
