We had him since he was about 7 weeks old & he was my birthday present with the stipulation that I would take total responsibility of him...being as we stay on the road, there is more hassles than at home but I didn't mind
My husband was and is the Alpha Male, but I was the one who took care in teaching/training him The only bitch was getting him not to pull on the leash He was fantastic off the leash, stayed right by our side and came when we called him, but put that leash on him and he would go deaf, dumb and blind!!
He was nearly 8 years old when we had to put him down due to problems with his pancreas that messed up his sugar as well After 3 vets the last one said due to our life style [not being in one location] and the cost of care not knowing if it would help him, he suggested putting him down. Of course, by then, we paid out about $1,000 in the 3 weeks and he still wasn't improving so......
But my husband seems like he is slowly taking my hints seriously now for another dog Guess I'll have to wait and see....*sigh*
Here's my little dust mop. Her name is Bella and she's 3 years old. She's a faithful friend and looks like "Mighty Dog" from that old TV commercial when she gets to running.

Ah she's a cutie, and portable too!
We go back and forth between getting another lab or a smaller dog that would be easier to pick up and go, being out here on the road Not to mention the medicines/vet bills would be lower. HA
But the lab just keeps pulling at us...*sigh* Don't have one yet but one day soon I hope to
Every time I go to Petsmart , They have cats from a local shelter and I find myself in front of the cages wishing I could come home with one. They have this sign that says 'Do not knock on window', and I knocked anyway because I wanted to see the front of one of the cats who wouldn't turn around. LOL! Can't afford a cat, but I can't help being drawn to them. I have rescued many cats throughout my life, even bottle fed a few. What an amazing experience. I really loved being a cat Mommy. Whenever people asked me if I had kids I say, "No, we had pets instead." :) Had a ferret once that looked like the one below. You have to ferret proof the house before getting one. They'll climb into the back of a stove or somewhere else you might not want them. Gotta watch them like a hawk! LOL
I think a ferret is probably the only pet I've never owned! No; I have to add snake to that list. I've had everything from a pet pig (not miniature! (rofl)), goat, rabbits, chickens, hedge hog, seahorses, a rat, turtles, fish, moluccan cockatoos down to tiny finches, lizards, button quail, and a tarantula.
I've had very few cats in my life, but since my husband is a cat person I have had at least one own me since we've been married.
I really, really wanted a horse for many years, but I never got one. I did discover that horses hate me, though. Even the most docile will try to bite me, or buck me off.
I have a very strong attraction to penguins and harp seals, but probably won't ever get one.My pond isn't big enough, and my yard is too small to replace it with a bigger one.. I'll probably come back as a zoo keeper in my next life....
I learned the hard way, when I was around 9, that if you're going to train a wild animal to do tricks so you can run away and join the circus, it shouldn't be a lizard. While gently cupping one in your hand in front of your face to scold it for not performing properly, it has the ability to fly from your hand and clamp on to your upper lip in a nano-second. And they have no intention of ever letting go. You have to rip it from your face. (rofl)

Nugget, I find it incredibly hard to believe that horses hate you!! I <3 horses to the moon and back, but have never owned one myself (bucket list pet) which is very, VERY sad for me.
I have, however, owned cats, dogs, mice, fish, 1 rabbit, 1 turtle and a squirrel. Actually, I "owned" a squirrel when I was 3 and my youngest son "owned" one this summer. I currently have 2 cats; Taz II and Spike, along with 4 chickens (yes Nugget, all 4 are still alive). I don't really consider the chickens as pets per se, but I have them and they are here. I will include pics of my current "pets" if I can figure this thing out. LOL
Nope, can't figure it out. Give me a minute or two, as I'm usually good with minutes.

Ok, figured it out! I only have a picture of Spike after his "surgery" and I only included one of the girls because I have like a 100 and it would be extraneous at best if I included more. After all, they're chickens... just sayin'.

Nugget, That cracked me up about the lizard! LOL I have a pet rat, aquatic turtle and fish right now. I used to have finches too and a few other bird species. Had mice, teddy bear hamsters, crested geckos, tree frog, a ferret, cats, guinipig...that I can remember. Looks like you have had an interest array of pets yourself.
Irish Cream, Oh, you reminded me of a rabbit I had a very long time ago. It was cream colored and so cute. I like chickens but never had any farm animals. Oh and Welcome!! :)
Your cat reminds me of one I had adopted from a shelter. 100chickens??? WOW!

My aunt had dozens of cats, roosters, pigeons, rabbits. A bunch of cockatoos, a dog, etc.
Forgot when I was a kid I've had random pets like snails, toads and box turtles. Once I had a tadpole but the water wasn't right so it died lol. When I was really young my family had fish in a tank for awhile, I don't remember them though.
If I could I'd have a black bear as a pet. They're amazing animals, but I think I'll leave them in the front yard :)

There are people I'll never understand. We have family friends going back 40 years. They're a childless couple and she says she loves cats. She's also very allergic to them.
She did some research and became the proud owner of two hypoallergenic cats, and a wallet about $3000 lighter.
What does this say? That she has too much money, yeah I'll give you that. But is that the love of cats or something else?

Probably that she'll be the first stop for the next banker bailouts.
I'll admit to being ambivalent about cats but that hasn't stopped them moving in my whole life. Plus they're always watching you and think every can that's opened is for them.
Now dogs, maybe not as crafty but much more loyal than any other pets.
