Indeed.... Our President needs another lesson in the fine art of his own limitations to power, it seems. I'm fairly confident the student will get schooled, too. It sure isn't the first time recently..and won't be the last.
I have to outright laugh at this point. They honestly believe they have a hope in hades of hiding something like this, at this point? Obama is about to become a minority of ONE in this nation for power. He'll have no one in Congress to so much as bother calling on a phone, and who has power which matters. The courts have generally slapped him down whenever precedent or law allowed for it. (He REALLY REALLY shouldn't have insulted the 9 Robed Ones in the State of the Union Speech....and he's suffered terribly for that stupidity) and even his OWN Executive is starting to see folks ask themselves....."Who covers me in 2 years??". Obama is a gone like a fart in the wind after that....while the career people he leaves behind may well hang for what he set them upon doing.
Here though? This is so incredibly wrong..it screams it!!
Recall folks... This whole issue is about the improper (ILLEGAL) release of tax returns to politicians outside the IRS for the purpose of political use. (when IRS itself wasn't using them as political weapons)
What do they claim as their cover for now saying 'Ha Ha! You can't see what we did!!'? Oh.. You'll love this.
26 U.S. Code § 6103 - Confidentiality and disclosure of returns and return information
Simply put? They admitted to open violation of THIS SAME LAW....while now using THIS LAW for why they are protected from having to share with the public, HOW they went about breaking it!
Its enough to give me a headache and cry uncle sometimes. Really... Logic here isn't missing. It's more Anti-Logic. Like Anti-Matter. It does about the same thing when coming in contact with positive logic, too!

POTENTIAL liability? (pauses a moment to thaw brain from the sudden logic freeze). Let me get this straight. This political toad is familiar enough with the law in question to say it saves him from having admit to the public HOW criminal they became ...but has to stop and think more about whether THEY personally violated it??
Yeah...and this is why people give up on the system entirely. How can you even argue with someone using logic like this? Its like arguing with a pig...except the pig may find it amusing and offer a bit of entertainment for making the effort worth something in the end.
Less than a week after ’fessing up that it found some 2,500 documents potentially showing that the IRS shared taxpayer returns with the White House, the Obama administration has reversed course and won’t release the trove to a group suing for access.
In an abrupt decision, the Treasury inspector general’s office said that the documents are covered by privacy and disclosure laws and can’t be provided to Cause of Action, despite a promise last week to hand over some 2,500.

Dan Epstein, executive director of Cause of Action, said Treasury was using “sophisticated” lawyering to weasel out of providing the documents. And he noted that their letter said that Treasury Secretary Jack Lew is now looking into “potential liability” that his tax aides broke laws in sharing taxpayer information with the White House
