Hernando's Hideaway needs a photography thread like a desert wanderer needs water :) This thread can serve as a general photography thread, but nothing's stopping anyone from making their own, or a themed one! If you want to post something you took a picture of in this thread, definitely don't hesitate!
I've gone from living in the tropics & having just two seasons (hot & hotter) to living in the north and having a brief tryst with autumn, and then immediately tangoing with winter head-on. Michigan had snow for about 10 solid days (I think? I lost count) of everything from the slightest trace of it, to a foot plus on any given day anywhere in the state. Now the sky has turned this strange color and this bright glowing thing is up there. Odd, it's not gray, and it's not snowing any more
A grayscale of one of the last heavy snows beginning.
Today, brilliant blue skies, scarce clouds, and snow-kissed everything. Most snow had fallen from tree limbs, but some still remained.
Even the parking lots have taken on the winter wonderland look to an extent.
Obviously, a week and a half of sub-freezing temperatures has frozen the lakes and ponds over a bit.
Some of the thicker trees still retained a good amount of snow on the limbs.
For an early snow, it turned out just lovely!
My overall picture composition isn't that great, but they definitely captured the post-snow atmosphere. Most of the state is slated to get freezing rain tomorrow, so the pretty blanket won't last for many of us.
As long as we never get something like this again......
That was my poor humble abode after the 'Great Icestorm of 2007'. It got me a new roof and fences but a week and a half without power was a bit much within a city I thought.
I'll take global warming over freezing. I can strip to be comfy in heat. Trees fall over and smash things with enough snow and ice though.

Holy Moly Wrabbit, That is incredible. I was basking in the snowy sunshine of Nyiah's photos and then suddenly, The power of ice !!
Your place sure did take a beating, thank goodness no one was hurt. We don't get that kind of ice around here but the wind does occasionally take down a Redwood or two.
Whoaaa, Wrabbit, that's some serious ice! I should count my blessings & be happy the freezing rain we were forecast to have yesterday never materialized. It was just cold, drizzly and very foggy.
Oooh, that is a pretty color mix, Grace Kind of like what some of the trees up here still look like, the ones that haven't dropped all their leaves yet still, but more colorful.
It's pretty gross outside today. Gray, drizzly again, much warmer, and all the snow has melted. Bleh. I got a little too used to the early snow tease, it's almost depressing out there, whereas normally I'd be all "Woo! It's raining!" (because down in FL, rain usually means quick, sharp temp drop)

Well, we do need the water. Badly... I keep a pretty close eye on drought conditions across the U.S. and Missouri is outside that level, but not by so much that we can feel comfy. We could drop back under the threshold to drought with a bad winter, real quick.
Well Nyiah I took some pictures this morning of the snow, the flakes are great big fat ones this morning. I didnt get out the camera yesterday, but this morning in the dark I thought I just had to! So here you go, my sharing of snow!
Do you see what I see? You captured an' ORB' ! (rofl) (rofl) :o It is in both pictures, only in different spots, so it HAS to be ghostly activity! Or, lens reflection/light refraction.
Yeah many of them have orbs..One of the daytime ones has an orb so large that it looks like the moon, but its not the moon nor where the moon could possibly be from the direction I was taking the picture.

Here is the other one.. (if you right click and select "view image" it opens up and goes right side up!)
Wow Grace!! You know, for a second there, I thought the sideways trees was a perfect ripple-free lake doing the mirror effect. I was going to say daaaang, that's some seriously smooth water!
I was hoping to see some northern lights tonight, some of the local meteorologists seemed to think we had a slight chance of it. Never did see any, but I did lay the camera down & take a long exposure in grayscale. I really like how it turned out

Okay, I had several to add, but can only add one at a time, it appears. This was a full moon with big puffy clouds all around. It was stunning seeing it in person. The picture doesn't do it justice. Nyiah,@wrabbit2000,Pennylemon,Grace,Nugget,

Here is one of a beautiful sunset over-looking the Smoky Mountains, my home. I didn't take this, but I can't get my own to attach because it says the file is too large.
Mystic Wanderer, ooh, pretty hue & softness to the clouds! I took several once and attempted to stack them (layering several to remove noise artifacts) It didn't turn out as I hoped, but I did manage a similar level of soft edges to the thin clouds in it. I think that's posted on TOS' astrophotog thread, I'd link if if I was certain it wouldn't cause strife, but otherwise I'll see if it's on this laptop or on the prior laptop this current one replaced and post it.
