A copy of approved plans will be at the local county seat. It will have construction drawings for the entire project from its inception plus as builts. Also do we have a exact location of every closed WalMart? We have some seriously qualified ex-military people here that could tell if they would make good command and control centers. And then we would need to know how close they are to major transportation hubs and internet nodes to be completely effective. Just some additional thoughts. Watchers should be looking for temporary antennas, vehicles, I am sure the power requirements are already there. It would make a good command center I would think. No windows, secure block wall construction, and the ability to drive a forklift in and around for setup. The block walls would be filled and provide reasonable protection from civilian weapons.
Yup, I'd be interested in finding out the store numbers and locations, just to see what's handy nearby.
As far as the "reasonable protection from civilian weapons", I live in coal country. We punch holes through solid rock on a daily basis, then proceed to dig the walls away from it just to see how long the roof holds up like we don't even care. There's "stuff" here that no one ever thought through the full potential applications of.
Hmm. I wonder if that factored in to Obama's push to close the coal mines and bankrupt the area into even worse poverty?
The time to check the fencing around those stores for height and vulnerabilities would be now, I would think. Can't blow a hole in chain link fencing, but you can sure take down posts and roll over it!
Reinforcing the concrete walls by filling the holes would be best done at construction, because you have to lay in rebar to reinforce it. Without that, it's just comes apart in bigger slabs. Watching for those big concrete road barriers like they divide interstates with being placed around the perimeter fence might be productive - as well as added chain link going up. None of the Walmarts I've been to have a full perimeter fence.
