I take it the above covered the concerns? Lack of feedback kinda leaves me guessing and the above was only part of what I've got, so reasonable to assume no one wants the rest at this point?
No bookmarked everything for later. As I am sure you have a mountain of reading, somethings take me a bit to get to. I have seen one of the sources before and you can add other countries to the list of concerns for nukes detonated in space. But I realize some of it is a little old they never release anything current the bastards. Thanks for the links I will read them for sure.
No Problem.. I think the two main pickups from all that material are that the 1962 Starfish Prime shot did cook car ignition coils on the big Island of Hawaii. (Different Islands seem to have gotten different primary impacts. Maybe direction and obstacles?)
Anyway.. The other was referring to the 90's test that cooked off cars in the parking lot, adjacent to an EMP test facility.
TBH for my personal thoughts tho?? Terrorists won't use EMP. It's not nearly sexy or flashy enough for a fighting force that literally lives and defines itself by its public image and public actions. EMP leaves nothing to see and nothing to celebrate. Just a 'pffft' and lights out. (Terrorists would use the weapon itself..not the EMP as a side effect of it)
My biggest fear on this is Russia. If they feel cornered or see the advantage to take without serious risk (as they calculate it) for retaliatory strike? They could send 2-3 over the pole in LEO or those altitudes anyway. In a matter of seconds, we'd be neutered for years. Military? Sure..they'd be defended by shielding, but for what? They can't fight after that. They will be ALL that works in our entire nation...and someone needs to keep order, right? Military recalls from around the world to support domestic order operations is what I'd expect in the aftermath.
Almost..too good to resist for Putin..if he sees an advantage or is cornered. That is what I lose sleep over, if anything. We won't even know anything started. The lights will just go out, and they won't turn back on. ....this will also have the devastating impact of reducing our news awareness to a literal line of sight or direct line of verbal contact with others, and likely for months at least. It gets REAL interesting if that happens. There isn't even an official story to have to worry about for Washington then, since no one has a TV or radio to GET any story at all.
Ok I checked out some of your links there is some decent information most of which I had seen except for the alternators frying during a field test. Obviously good to know. I didn't realize the seriousness of an EMP until late 80's when a huge solar flare knocked out the satellite used to verify credit cards at a customers company. It killed the Sat's and the receiver in the office by the register. I don't think they thought about the nefty parabola antenna to focus the signal to the LNR that was toast as well.
So as I was looking online for something a little more detailed and came across this, SOURCE
"Above: the incendiary effects of a relatively weak but natural MHD-EMP from the geomagnetic solar storm of 13 March 1989 in saturating the core of a transformer in the Hydro-Quebec electric power grid. Hydro-Quebec lost electric power, cutting the supply of electricity to 6 million people for several hours, and it took 9 hours to restore 83% (21.5 GW) of the power supply (1 million people were still without electric power then). Two 400/275 kV autotransformers were also damaged in England:"
I do agree that terrorist wouldn't use a nuke for this effect they would rather blow up something for the effect on public psyche. But I think I would look to someone like North Korea, or Iran when they are ready both have delivery systems to do it. Of course China has some rather large nuclear weapons that would make a mess out of several countries when attacking us.
One of your reports said also that 50% useage would be lost on the power grid I think that is low considering almost all of the nations power comes through 60KV power lines over remote areas. The source I provided discusses this and the effects that same solar flare had on power lines from Canada south. Very interesting for sure, it would be better if the country took this a little more serious.
