Perhaps, it takes the nation we formed ours to escape the oppression of....to show us how we can take oppression entirely too far. The irony would have both King George and George Washington throwing back drinks together to try and forget the mess it has all become.
In the United States, the naked full body scanners at the airport (which they now admit have defined resolution sufficient to see all the detail any pervert wants on a body going through) raised some protest, but not much as I recall it. I recall the mention of children at one point. I also recall the loud "It's for the children" cries drowning that out rather quickly and the whole fact this produced child pornography by design was lost and forgotten ...except by those watching the screens every day of course.
lol..... They can do all the checking without removing a thing? Riiiiiight....
They are told that NOW perhaps, just as we were in America, but that's procedure for the demo phase. When its accepted and concrete for a new reality to live with? Oh, then the shoes come off for explosive testing instead (-rolls eyes-...another topic entirely) and they feel up the breasts of every female who catches their eye for ....what? I never have quite understood what deadly weapon a pair of boobs is hiding..but they sure enjoy the searching at times, I'm guessing.

Now I hate to be the bitter Betty or downer Dave in this situation, but there is something critical to note and I won't even attempt to be kind, subtle or tactful about saying it.
WE HAVE BABY RAPERS, PERVERTS, CHILD MOLESTERS, PORNOGRAPHERS AND CHRONIC ABUSERS IN OUR FEDERAL LAW ENFORCEMENT, AT ALL LEVELS!!!
Is there a high %? Oh hell no... MOST law enforcement would gleefully give a fellow officer a handy sex change, sans pain killer or operating room, if they caught them in their secret life of filth. However..we KNOW these people exist because they ARE busted out into the public square JUST often enough to remove all doubt that they ARE there. Prosecutors, agents, cops themselves and all manor of others in the system, up and down the line. There are perverts among them, all the way. Court history tells us this is fact, not assumption.
THIS matters for only ONE reason in this context (as perversion is something found in ALL walks of life as a human failing..and a terminal one...but sadly not uncommon enough).
We should not...EVER...allow the situation to feed, attract and nurture that perversion. Full naked body scanners that little kids are sent through the same as old men and women is abuse, in my view, and without question.
As far as I'm concerned, the only place that view of a child should ever be seen is in the home and where 'life happens' for passing awkward moments that come up, a medical office with a doctor (and these days? Probably never 1 on 1 and alone ....same sex or NOT, to add a point on that) or in a room with investigators looking to put away someone who already crossed the line this way. To virtually strip every kid walking through to ding the random pick really is little more than state orchestrated child pornography. Even if it is for an audience of one (and we KNOW those damn machines are CAPABLE of recording...don't even tell me its never happened), that ONE isn't so far above reproach for character in the line of work to be trusted. No one is, and why our laws in this area of society (across the Western World) are so draconian.
What does everyone else think? May England boldly *NOT* go where we so casually crossed into with true enthusiasm?? I hope the British public fights like hell, personally...especially as they've seen the baby raper problem moving into the highest levels of their public society. They know better than we're permitted to see, how likely it is that perverts are drawn specifically TO jobs like...Airport security. (damn sure, while it's the only legal kiddie porn peep show in the world...-sigh-)

Manchester Airport has been forced to rethink trials of its invasive new X-ray machine after claims the "naked" images of airline passengers could violate child pornography laws.
This week, the airport began a year-long trial of the full-body scanner, which can instantly detect any hidden weapons or explosives without passengers having to remove any of their clothing - such as shoes and belts - for a search.

But British children's advocate Action on Rights for Children (ARCH) said the technology would fall foul of the country's Protection of Children Act, which states it is an offence to "'show" and "make" an indecent image of a child.
The group said it was irrelevant that the naked images were not stored and that parents' permission was required before children could be scanned. It pointed to a provision in the act outlawing "pseudo-photographs".
