In that area, a swarm isn't that big of a deal. If you take a look at the US faultline map (Here) you can see that the area in question is not part of the fault system on the Pacific coast or in the Yellowstone basin, the two most worrisome seismic locations in the western US.

You know the funny part? I looked at some of the Heliplots like the one below....
That is actually a link right to the raw server feed from the host of the data, so it will update over time I believe. The one showing right now started 11/08/14 at 02:00 Universal Time and is at 12:58am or so, coming up on the bottom end of the barrel. It's showing one quake about 23:38/23:39 Universal with shaking to 0:20 or so as it faded entirely. That's it for the near 23 hour time period.
You know what I'm not seeing (and international Heliplots look the same) is a lot of shaking. Even there, in Elko Nevada, it's flat lines but for that blip ..which may or may not have been local but could have been something a distance away (haven't looked to cross reference yet).
So..similar to Reno in the last swarm (ahem..excavation)...something has the ground all riled up in an unexpected spot and a similar pattern...yet REAL localized.
Whether serious or not, it doesn't hurt to keep track of these things
And regardless of what 'pro-frackers' say, to keep injecting thousand and thousands gallons of water mix into the layers of earth, something is going to give eventually
That's why in some areas they have put a halt to fracking for the time being
----------------------
Hmmm, hey Charles, we sure could use a 'FRAGILE EARTH' forum....**hint hint**
I don't know that fracking makes sense on these highly concentrated and highly localized quakes "bursts". We see frack quakes here around the bordering states to Missouri often enough to be getting downright pissed off on the topic, but they are noticeable quakes for a couple states distance to read on the heliplot graphs. They're natural quakes produced by unnatural stresses added to the mix. The localized nature of these in Nevada are part of why I suspect we're looking at the byproduct of deep, large scale human excavation far below our feet.
We saw blow outs and quakes generated from the tunnel ends, in my opinion, in both the D.C. area (Virginia) and then, earlier that same year (as I recall) we had one preceding that in Colorado. I believe the same folks in-thread now were elsewhere talking about those when they happened. Quakes enough to damage the Washington Monument and raise a passing fear of stability to the monuments as a whole ...or you'd THINK that would have been the reaction to nature's unpredictability. ...except that wasn't the reaction and Official Washington seemed not to really notice or even care that much. Perhaps because it hadn't been natural and those who needed to know, knew it? Repeats weren't likely..and they knew that, too.
Now we have a second major swarm in a state the Federal Government and Military outright own 84% of by landmass. They're digging in their own sandbox and apparently, not for the first time in recent years. At least that is how I've come to see these for the oddness that defines them.
I just wonder how furious the American people will be...SOMEDAY...when they realize what hardships the nation went through during these years while how many hundreds of billions, if not trillions have been diverted into the ground, literally, to create a new world beneath our current one. I have a feeling...Politicians better warm up to the idea of LIVING in their rat holes....as the angry public may chase them right into them.
Oh.. as a side note. I had looked at the heliplot for the other night and checked USGS records for quakes. At 23:38, there had been a quake in the 4. range.....in China. That appeared to be the only one to precisely match the trace for what that night HAD picked up from Elko Nevada. Other traces around the world showed that same quake to different degrees and at the same spot (time zones adjusted for, of course). That had been the only one for the near 24hrs leading into the 9th.
