The trial for the creator and operator of The Silk Road is coming right up. This story notes they are also introducing evidence of Murder for Hire plots he allegedly had going in protection of the business Silk Road came to represent.

It sure turned into what sounds like BlackMarket Incorporated for essentially becoming the center of international contraband. At least for some. They estimate the customers having participated in this market to be 100,000 in another part of the story.
Up until now, I'm not sure I'd have thought a life sentence all that appropriate. After all, I doubt he made it with any thought for what it would truly become. However....when we get into talking about having people killed to protect a web site? Hmmm.. That's just rude. I hope Sing Sing or Attica is good to him.
