I used the linked calculator and put in a fake amount of $50,000 for a single adult younger than 65 years .. I am older and very glad I do not have to put up with what is going on with the health care system in America..
You may be required to pay 2% of your gross income after subtracting $10,300, the threshold amount at which you would be required to file a federal income tax return for 2015. You may qualify for an exemption. For example, if insurance would cost you more than $4,000 per year, you wouldn't have to pay the penalty.
Ahhh.... America has become an interesting place. To simply exist within the borders as a human being now, I must pay tribute. It says that with an annual income of $12,000 a year (It would take counting student loan refunds), I owe the min of $325.
I wonder how that will go over with Obama's core, who quite simply know poverty as a generational reality in far too many cases, and plenty are there for reasons not entirely of their own making. This should go over with all the grace of a loud fart in a quiet church. Whew... He's gonna have it coming from the people who 'believed' in Obama like a new Faith all its own. I doubt they fully understand what is about to land on them.....
...and death is literally the only way to escape what they levied upon american citizens here. Think about it...You must, to the day you DO die, have a qualifying plan or pay the fine. Just to live. The IRS is also the collector, by design. It didn't HAVE to be that way, and that is unprecedented too. They never...ever...EVER...forget though. Not the IRS.
Brought to you by Progressives for a Healthy Future. (/sarcasm)
Just ran the calculator, married 2 adults under 65 150K income, $2588.00 thats about $350.00 more than it cost to be insured. I really hate the kind of post that points out how we are getting screwed and can do nothing about it. Voting sure hasn't helped, we just voted in a bunch of dumbass republicans to stop this nonsense, and they vote to fund the ACA. Republicans and Democrats are but cheeks of the same ass.
You must have used the default year of 2015. Taxes filed this year are for 2014, and the minimum is $95 per uninsured adult.
My results, for tax year 2014:
No penalty
Your annual household income is less than the minimum threshold at which you would be required to file a federal income tax return for 2014. Even if you file a return, you wouldn’t be required to pay the penalty for not having insurance.
So the key is to keep your income low - I think barter will be the wave of the future.

Nope - see above. They pulled a CYA to make sure the huddled masses didn't revolt. One can make 250k a year selling crack, and still not have to worry about it, because that's not a "taxable" income. Not only do you keep all your "earnings" in that case, but you still get to skate with food stamps and medicaid!
The wave of the future for America is "poverty" - this is designed to make it so. There is no incentive for growth and climbing out of the gutter if everything you make is going to be confiscated by the government and insurance corporations using the government as enforcer goons.
Just stay in the gutter, grab everything the government gives, and see how long it takes to break the system altogether so we can reboot this mess.
I do, however, recommend arming one's self no matter how poor - when the time comes for a reboot, you don't want the same guys... or at least the ones that survive... writing the code for the reboot all over again. That won't fix the broken programming, because it's been broken on purpose.
