Rollover ads on TOS {some Rstill trying to get the msg thru}

If nothing is done with those posts on that thread, that would be progress.

The last time, they were fiercely determined to kill the messenger . . . or leave them in purgatory indefinitely.

However . . . given that past behavior is the best predictor of first behavior . . . I think you are right . . . nothing constructive will be done about the problem. Good people will be wrongly and inaccurately blamed for ego and other discomforts and the downward beat will likely go on.

Meh, one of the posters in that thread gave the answer to the problem even though it's against the T&C's. Normally I'll try to follow the rules but if the site is going to virtually flog you to death with ads then a person should simply protect themselves anyway they can.

The situation is pretty bad when those types of threads become as numerous as the obama.care threads. I hadn't heard of anyone sanctioned for creating an anti-ad thread but I'm pretty sure there have been some nasty looks and sharp comebacks.

I was forced to use an ad-blocker on TOS, though it wasn't TOS' fault. My ISP (Charter Communications… real great guys, lol) inject their OWN ads into other peoples' web sites. I was getting this horrible ad for a local energy company (video with sound, took over the screen and slowed the browser to a crawl) that would come up, only on TOS, and SO and I figured out that it wasn't TOS, it was Charter.

Otherwise, ads on TOS never bothered me, though I didn't see a lot of them, for whatever reason (they weren't blocked, I set up the ad-blocker to only block the Charter inserted ads.)

I think the biggest problem I have isn't even with websites I'm a contributor with. Its sites I go to for information and the MSM sites are the worst. These "Auto-Play" videos that just cue right up and play whether you cared to see it or not. ABC was one of the first offenders but it's become a fad or something. One site even had 3 of them cued in SEQUENCE. So when I stopped one, another played from a different part of the page and then, a third! Oh..that pissed me off.

That got me to using a Flash blocker, and that took out whatever remained from the ABS ad removal. So it's rather nice. I very rarely see an ad on any site now, and never get auto playing sound anywhere. (Yay! I can have my speakers and sound all set how I want and not have to turn it off because of inconsiderate ad designers).

It's a shame they can't respect the users right not to have screens and audio outright hijacked for a 2 bit advertisement. I wouldn't mind normal ads and banners. I'd let them stay if thats all it still was.

That's something of a problem with my system as well. Lately I've had to reset flash so that it has to ask me whether to activate or not on every site I visit. Normally my answer is "don't activate."

While videos play fine when I want them to the sheer amount of flash ads and little video windows on many of the news site have definitely become an issue. Guess the trouble of choosing whether to play or not is better than a hung browser though.
