I am posting this only because I had no idea bacterial cells made up 10 times more cells than what we would call human cells.... Figure someone else will be amazed too.
When the kids came home from school and were sick I always called them disease packets.. I should have called them petri dishes !
Researchers shed light on how 'microbial dark matter' might cause disease
One of the great recent discoveries in modern biology was that the human body contains 10 times more bacterial cells than human cells. But much of that bacteria is still a puzzle to scientists.
It is estimated by scientists that roughly half of bacteria living in human bodies is difficult to replicate for scientific research—which is why biologists call it "microbial dark matter." Scientists, however, have long been determined to learn more about these uncultivable bacteria, because they may contribute to the development of certain debilitating and chronic diseases.
For decades, one bacteria group that has posed a particular challenge for researchers is the Candidate Phylum TM7, which has been thought to cause inflammatory mucosal diseases because it is so prevalent in people with periodontitis, an infection of the gums.
In fact, more and more research has been done and those that continuously use anti-bacterial hand soap is doing their body more harm than good
One of the reasons is our bodies have natural anti-bodies that already fights off most bacteria If people continue to use anti-bacterial gel/soap, their immune system won't know how to fight off germs naturally over time
Shoot, we work out doors, and half the time, all we have to wipe our hands off is our Levi's Yet we still munch on our lunch without a second thought Never got sick from it either (our bodies are used to it) A little dirt/germs won't hurt ya...
What bothers me is when someone is coughing and sneezing and go to use the coke fountain or nozzle for the ketchup, spreading sick germs/bacteria That's when we are cautious, and try not to touch what they have
Yep ! George Carlin said when he was growing up they used to swim in some rivers that ended up being on the super fund clean up due to pollution.. He always said one bug would look at his bugs and run the other way... which actually has allot of truth to it......
