I hope that you all had a wonderful Halloween. We had a great one here. I managed to get everything set up and ready to go with about 10 minutes or so to take a break before Quin got home from school and needed a bit of help with her makeup and costume. She went as a female Jack Skellington from Nightmare Before Christmas. She looked very cute. She went over to her friend's house and they handed out candy for a bit and then walked around trick-or-treating for a bit. One of my acquired teens who moved to a different town and we don't get to see very often anymore did stop by to visit for a bit. That was nice getting to catch up on how he has been doing.
Russ got home right before trick-or-treat hours started and watched outside for me while I finished Quin up. Then I went out and we sat on the porch that I had gotten nicely decorated and we handed out candy and chatted with the neighborhood parents. Russ doesn't have much interest in dressing up, but he did get some mustache wax and curled the ends of his mustache. I usually dress up in some variation of a fairy or in my renaissance faire garb, but I wasn't able to easily do either of those due to still being healing and unable to wear anything that puts pressure on the incision area (still...sigh), so I just wore my usual leggings and a sweater that I've been relegated to until I am healed more. I missed being able to dress up, but still had a very nice evening.
Quin only walked around for a bit, but she came home with quite a bit of candy and we had a bit left over at the end of the night, too.
That sounds nice Cindi! Its always nice to get to see friends that have moved away!
For my part...I didn't dress up! I was supposed to be a pirate but I left work early cause I wasn't feeling well! I spent the day in bed, and dragged my butt around the streets at night to take my boys trick or treating! We still had a great time and they got a lot of candy though!
What kind of sucks is that we have to drive about 10-20 minutes to get to a neighbourhood that actually has decorated houses so was can gather some. Our area has ZERO houses that were giving out candy! It looked like there was a black-out!

I've had to forego Halloween- not because I hate kids and seeing them all decked out in ghoulish outfits, but because I have had to become a 'germaphobe'. Since then, I've noticed that whatever bugs were slowly making the rounds before Oct.31 explode like a wildfire throughout the community.
I'll have to go to the grocery store to get a few things for Thanksgiving and Christmas dinner, but other than those two trips I'll be staying secluded until spring.
I miss being out and about during the holidays, but I seem to save more money by staying home!
We had repeat costumes this year -- Big Kid was a black cat again, which was augmented with a mask this time instead of make-up. Little Kid's bee princess/fairy/whatever it is costume was recycled into a queen bee again, and she made cardboard wings with Big Kid for it (original wire ones are long-destroyed)
We had a ton of fun walking around, soooo many houses around here get into the spirit of things! I lost count of the decked out graveyard front yards And the folks that do the over-the-top haunted garage did it again! Big Kid, as usual was not phased. Little Kid, however, came flying out screaming like a banshee, rotfl.
They ended up with an unreal amount of candy, Spyder figured probably around 6 or 7 lbs of goodies EACH, he made out like a fat rat with the annual Dad Tax. Er, well, it's not all candy, there were pretzel packs, cheese puff packs, and a few other non-candy stuff. A surprising number of people are going organic, too, so that was a nice surprise to see.
At one point right around sunset, we had a bunch of ducks following the kids around door-to-door. I took pictures, lol, I'll upload them later, it was so funny XD

I agree, I think I want to go out with Nyiah next year! We would have tons of candy when Quin was younger and we took her out, but she went with one of her friends after handing out candy at the friend's house so she didn't come home with as much. She did share some of what she did get, though, so that was appreciated.
Nugget, I'm sorry that you had to forgo Halloween this year. It sounds like a lot of no fun having to be so careful.
Teye, I hope you are feeling better today. I bet your kids appreciated it so much that you made the effort to take them around even when you were sick. It is things like that that mean so much to them.
I think one of my favorite things that Quin got was a picture. There is a professional photographer who had a set up at her door with a backdrop and little bench and instead of candy, she offered to take a picture and print out a copy for the kids. Quin and her friend, Hannah, got their picture taken together and the lady printed a copy for each of them. She did a beautiful job and I wish she had also handed out business cards with the pictures because I would definitely be interested in using her services for future family photos.
So its settled! Next year, we all go over to Nyiah, 's Area for trick or treating....where can I catch a shuttle bus from Canada?
Glencairn, Yes I am feeling much better now! thanks! And they did indeed appreciate me taking them out (I think...or they were just really really happy to gather some candies).
that sucks Nugget, being stuck at home like that! If I could, I think I would just follow the bears and hibernate! (Not in the same cave mind you )
Oh and Nyiah, I sure hope the little ducks got at least a little bit of candy for their efforts

I was disappointed. We live in the country, and usually will have 5-6 of the neighbors kids. But this year, not one. I had even left my witch costume on from work. Bummer.
Nyiah, Those are so cute! How fun that you got to walk around with the ducks. Thanks for the pictures so that we could see the cuteness, too.
chiefsmom, That sucks! I'm sorry that you didn't have any of the neighbor kids stop by. Handing out candy has definitely become my favorite part of Halloween lately.
