These are my comments and conclusions based on a letter published by the Survival Blog sent in by a Survival Blog Contributor on May 30, 2016. I'm going to quote many of the points made in this letter, points that are supported by source links available on the letter at the blog site. Here is a link to that letter.
Letter Re: Venezuela
I thought that this recent Survival Blog article, "Letter Re: Venezuela", had some interesting points concerning the SHTF meltdown going on down there. The way I see it, based on the points in the letter, it's a clear case of what happens when a "progressive" liberal socialist government turns shit sideways for their causes.
Just like Obama Care that is falling apart and that solar power green scheme that went bankrupt, they use a liberal cause like the health of the population or the environment as an excuse to create over budget failures that end up backfiring on the people. Along with the failures and the inherent problems they cause, it seems that the only real purpose is that some people make a lot of money on the backs of the people from these projects.
So the government goes hog wild on the hydro power projects and ignores the consequences, 74% hydro power is a green wet dream, but too bad they never invested in the infrastructure or considered what problems a drought could bring. I suspect bad planning along with mismanagement of funds and corruption were the real problems here.
OK, so the government puts the blame on demand, due to economic growth no less (huge lie), and makes it the common citizen's problem to deal with through "conservation" programs.
Now when the chickens start to come home and roost, find a political enemy to blame. Bet that they got tough with their conservation programs too.
That's more like it, blame some other country like the U.S., create a boogie man and deflect from the real source of the blame.
Then when things get really out of hand and the propaganda doesn't matter any more, the government brings out the total lies, the exact opposite of the situation actually, and gives the call to "remain calm". The government created the provocations, caused the food shortages they were denying, and now were no longer just enforcing energy conservation but stealing food from the people who were prepared while characterizing them as "hoarders" like they were evil criminals.
So there you have the government M.O. Make a bunch of money by creating numerous problems under the guise of "save the environment" or what have you, and point fingers when shit goes south. After that, use propaganda and the threat of force, to make the problems the fault of the public who has to deal with it. Ultimately, when the shit really hits the fan, they give out the call to "remain calm", deny everything with out right lies, then finally take whatever the people have for the "greater good" during this emergency. Martial law, if it isn't all ready happening, would be the next step I would think. A lesson we should all be learning from Venezuela in my opinion.

"2007 Former President of Venezuela, Hugo Chavez, . . . was going to lead the way to save the environment by investing in energy conservation efforts."
". . . world’s third largest hydroelectric dam, which produces 60% of Venezuela’s power, with 74% of their power being generated by hydroelectric technology. The narrative during 2009 was comprised of two causes for energy shortages– low water levels due to drought and under-investment of infrastructure by the government."
So the government goes hog wild on the hydro power projects and ignores the consequences, 74% hydro power is a green wet dream, but too bad they never invested in the infrastructure or considered what problems a drought could bring. I suspect bad planning along with mismanagement of funds and corruption were the real problems here.
"2011 More campaigns of energy conservation with the narrative stating the cause of the shortages was a result of 'rapidly growing demand for electricity that has resulted from economic growth and poverty reduction.' "
OK, so the government puts the blame on demand, due to economic growth no less (huge lie), and makes it the common citizen's problem to deal with through "conservation" programs.
"2013 Venezuela experiences its second major power outage. The narrative from . . . current president, Nicolas Maduro, stated the blackout was caused by political sabotage of his political opposition."
Now when the chickens start to come home and roost, find a political enemy to blame. Bet that they got tough with their conservation programs too.
"The narrative shifted slightly and resulted with Maduro expelling three U.S. diplomats by publicly stating, 'They were involved in a widespread power outage earlier in the month. ‘Get out of Venezuela,' he says, listing several names. 'Yankee go home. Enough abuses already.' "
That's more like it, blame some other country like the U.S., create a boogie man and deflect from the real source of the blame.
"Also in 2013, the attorney general of Venezuela called on people to “remain calm, not to fall for provocations, and not to be afraid of the ‘alleged’ food shortage”, during which “hoarders” were to be arrested and imprisoned."
Then when things get really out of hand and the propaganda doesn't matter any more, the government brings out the total lies, the exact opposite of the situation actually, and gives the call to "remain calm".
