Interesting. I didn't get into any of the original shows, but my parents did watch them and will be likely to check this one out. I'm wondering if it is something that I could get into without having ever seen any of the earlier versions.
Don't feel bad for not being into the franchise, Glencairn. There's some things you're not missing, lol. I'm a HUGE fan, but The Original Series (Shatner & co.) is like Kryptonite to me. The game I play, Star Trek Online, is having a new branch of the game debut later on this summer, where you're basically a time traveling agent going back to the TOS days. I figured I probably should watch TOS and get up to speed so I'm not missing the point of some puns or storylines, but meh. I couldn't even get through the first season XD It's pretty terrible overall, acting, SFX, everything. The writing itself wasn't too horrible, but my god, the acting...
And to be brutally honest, in any of the Trek series, the first season in all generally sucked balls compared to later ones. TNG is infamous for having a gawd-awful first 2 seasons before finding it's feet. That's my favorite series, but I can't help but wince my way through those first 2 seasons XD
I expect the same for the new series, the first season or two is likely (in hindsight, anyway) to be a low bar before the writers & cast really settle in. I'd love a tidbit or two dropped, though, anything about the premise would be welcome. All I know is that they're shooting in Toronto (!) and slated to begin doing so in August or September. Trekkies everywhere are going bonkers with the hermetic seal on info. Gotta hand it to CBS, they've done fantastic at keeping everything under wraps so far.

I know that I enjoyed the few episodes that I have seen that I caught while visiting my parents, but it was so long ago that I saw them that I don't even remember which series the episodes were from. They (my dad more than my mom) watched all of them and Russ has expressed some interest in checking the reboot out. I will definitely keep in mind that it will likely get better in subsequent seasons if the first one is going to follow form and keep up the tradition of sucking.
I imagine that the fans are going crazy with everything being kept so quiet and under wraps. It would make me crazy and impatient, too.
It ain't much but damn, did it wet my whistle for more I'm really curious about the blue planetary fragment (about 14 seconds in) About the only thing I can think of that fits the depiction is Hobus (star that went supernova & destroyed Romulus in the '09 ST movie) As for the sun that follows that, Amargosa perhaps (the star that Soran collapsed in the Generations movie) The first (blue remnants) doesn't fit for color for the star type (both Hobus & at least one of Romulus' binary stars were yellow dwarf stars, if memory serves) but it would work as a depiction of a planetary fragment in either of those systems (very similar to STO's depiction of Hobus' planetary fragments, actually)
The teaser text at the end slips in a big hint, IMO. "New Crews, New Villains, New Heroes, New Worlds." New Crews. Plural. That could be hinting at something of an anthology-style show not fixed to any one ship or location. Or perhaps time. I'd actually LOVE a temporal cold war themed show with time travel, a central character, and thus, different crews. Not getting my hopes up too high just yet, but that would be pretty freakin' awesome to be able to have stories from completely different canon Trek eras, yet tied together with a single character for X reason (a tie-in to Temporal Investigations would be the only thing I could see working for that idea)
And yes, that (figuratively speaking) front & center crack on the Delta (ST emblem) has sparked a great deal of musing. Everything from what disconnected right edge could signify to what the texture pattern is similar to is being debated left & right.
All anyone really knows is just that Bryan Fuller (executive producer) said there are easter eggs in the trailer. People are going nuts trying to figure them out.
Oh boy, lol, I sure let my full nerd self out of the barn here, didn't I?
Quick Edit: < nerd finger snap > I just noticed something! The colors of the phrases are all different. New Crews is Yellow, New Villains is red, New Heroes is green, New Worlds is blue. Traditionally, when speaking in terms of Trek, blue usually represents the Federation, so the whole new worlds bit = exploration, thus Federation-centered exploration might be a no duh. Red usually signifies the Klingons, and green usually signifies the Romulans. That planetary fragment I mentioned that may be of Hobus? I wonder if it's actually representing Romulus? Not entirely sure what the yellow would represent, but Vulcans might be in that mix.
Or I'm overthinking it & those colors just represent Starfleet's Engineering, Tactical, Science & Medical departments
