I have made a few people unhappy by pointing out something strange in radio and TV ads, since they now notice it too.
A few weeks ago I noticed strange sounds, like those big car speakers that rattle the whole neighborhood. When I muted the TV, it stopped- that's when I realized the rythmic thumping was coming from a commercial. It's burried just behind the background music, and is MOST annoying!
Some of the commercials have a background noise like a bell chimming; some have steady 'thumping'; some sound like a car door shutting. I have no idea why these sounds have been added to commercials, as it certainly isn't drawing my attention in a possitive way! If it's designed to make us want to buy the product, it's having the opposite effect on me......so what else is this subliminal message doing to us, I wonder?
The' laywer/lawsuit/call now' commercials are the most obvious.

What do my fellow Hernandoid's think?
Ok so it's nice to know I am not crazy. I haven't heard anything with a rhythmic beat, but I have heard the bells, and sometimes ringing in the background. I was thinking since I have cox and our phone, internet, and TV signal is all on the same cable their filters are failing and maybe the ringtones we coming through occasionally or something like that. But you are not alone I have heard these things as well. They are out of place for what is happening in that type of cable event.
Does this happen across all service providers or just Cox?
If you have a headache, do what it says on the aspirin bottle: Take two, and KEEP AWAY FROM CHILDREN.
I do not have internet TV, tho I do have low-bandwidth dial-up internet through the phone company.
The background sound is only with commercials, and more and more ads are using this technique. Companies wouldn't go to the extra trouble and expense without a darn good reason.
It's so annoying that I'm pretty sure it's not to increase sales of anything. I have to wonder what type of long-term effect this subliminal programming is supposed to have on people?
I've noticed things like that, too. I regularly hear something and will pause the TV to see if it is something that is happening for real or if it is something in the background on TV.
