I've been watching some videos for Arma, and wondering if anyone else might play this?
Its a very realistic (timewise too, for that matter) warfare simulation. The one there is a Vietnam theme for Arma II
This is what looks like a regular team playing together, at my casual glance. What is really interesting to me is the MMO nature of these. I've watched a few engagements of opportunity go both directions and while a couple are AI, others apparently are purely happenstance for one unit crossing another, set up to hit whatever comes. The coordination and tactics are obvious for being a lot of work and effort into the game play, and it looks like it could really be fun with the group aspect.

Have played Arma II but not 3 yet.It is Very realistic. That said this isn't COD or some BS like that. You better make time to play it.There are a ton of mods out there for both games right now also. From free to pay for it.Being in the military does help with some of the tactics used by other players and there are some very big communities out that play on privet servers. All depends on what you want out of it.My suggestion would be to play the single player part and get very used to the game before joining a server group.Unlike MMO's you don't lvl up or have hit points.Ammo will run out and some games once your dead that's it game over.

I think this is a game I'd love to play more of with people I know from here or some other context outside the game to start with. I've given Arma II a few tries though, and the time to get killed without seeming to enjoy much of anything is a little short for me.....when it isn't so absurdly long by walking several kilometers, in what seems like real world foot travel time, I'm ready to just shoot myself before committing outright war crimes on the digital goobs who made me live the experience of walking all that way.
I can see how this might be fun with people working as a coordinated team tho.
That time investment is no joke either. I figured I'd jump in a helicopter when I first tried this out and found out, upside down and dying, how unlike Battlefield II (for instance) this one is. Erm.... Helicopters really suck to fly, and I can't imagine why anyone would choose to learn to fly them for anything but really HIGH dollars IRL. I ended up actually buying a closely related sim game to this one, to learn the helicopters, as they use the same controls and respond the same way between them. Erm....all new ways to prove they weren't really MEANT to fly. At least not with a rabbit. I've found really creative ways to crash them tho......but I digress..
Reason why some countries use this for a training sim for officers and solders. U.S. being one of them currently.Look up shacktack on youtube or Deslexi. Has some great how vids showing how to fly and what not to do.Shacktack is part of a gaming group I'm involved with. REALLY hard to get into though. They have a waiting list and only do open recruiting once a year.
