Raytheon just received a $20,489,714 contract from the US Military (DARPA) to develop the fastest missiles ever known. These hypersonic missiles can theoretically reach any target in the world within one hour.
DARPA wants the hypersonic missiles be fully developed by the year 2020. Last year these weapons were tested but failed, however they did not fail to increase international tension. With the announcement of these new research funds, this tension is going to continue. Current events in Ukraine, Syria, and Iran have already inflamed the East vs. West conflict to levels unseen since the Cold War.
DARPA is developing self guided bullets that don’t miss, robots of war, drones, biometrics, and other futuristic weapons that will be used to preserve US military hegemony for decades to come unless steps are taken to reign in these tools of destruction.
It is with a very heavy heart that I read things like this. It makes me wonder what would happen if this kind of money were spent on promoting peace instead of war, violence fear and control what might happen. Is ammihilation the only thing that will stop the kill-or-be-killed mentality?
It's insane how much the private sector contractors pull in. It's essentially a legal bribery scheme to subsidize the private sector.

Nugget,flint2016, Right now Russia and China are displaying weapons in a one upmanship like little kids saying look what I have. THis is just the US saying we now have missles you can't shoot down because they fly to fast. So the US for the minor cost of 20 million has one upped the other two, while 20 million could have been a good start on a border fence, helped some vet's, or fed the poor, or fixed the contaminated water in michigan.
We have a over 1000 years of war and killing I don't see it stopping anytime soon we have just gotten better at it. The elites don;t appear to be interested in saving lives only taking them. Once we figure out how to make saving lives make more money than taking them I suspect death will always be the front runner.

China has already said they have re-entry vehicle that can take out a carrier or a whole carrier battle group. Most do not realize just how serious the whole south china sea thing is becoming. We now have some serious catching up to do unless there are some black budget super weapons no one knows about.

Not to be out done Russia has been testing (seems successful) their own version.
Five Chinese Navy ships are sailing in international waters in the Bering Sea off Alaska, the Pentagon said on Wednesday, in an apparent first for China's military that came as U.S. President Barack Obama toured the U.S. state.
Pentagon spokesman Captain Jeff Davis said it was the first time the United States had seen Chinese navy ships in the Bering Sea.
"We respect the freedom of all nations to operate military vessels in international waters in accordance with international law," Davis said.
This has troubled me since day one. A three-day trip to Alaska to discuss climate change doesn't 'feel' right, and the silence surrounding such unusual events isn't making much sense.
It's probably best we don't know what's really going on.

That is pretty much what they said during Apollo..... so the Apollo missions were cancelled and LBJ started the great society which fed and clothed those less fortunate... For whatever reason their numbers have doubled several times...
Not picking on you, promise ... just pointing out that is used over and over again..... and from my point of view all you get are more people on the government teat. Which certainly appears to be the agenda. Would you vote for someone who says get off you butt and work or starve or would you vote for someone who says we will provide for your needs and all your many children's needs..
I started to post some of the videos on welfare abuse but ... no reason too... it is what it is.. I like the woman with 16 kids who says someone needs to pay for all these babies.. Or the one who tells her 16 year old daughter she is going to have to be the baby maker now for momma is worn out.. Babies = MONEY in the welfare state.
It seems that the ones that benefit from making all of these expensive weapons is the big businesses creating them. Do you know how much all of us have to work to pay for this stuff? You do not see much of the cost unless you consider everything compounded. Everything you buy is partially taxes. The companies pay taxes, the retailer pays taxes, the workers all through the system pay taxes, then we buy the product which is fifteen percent tax and pay a six percent sales tax on it. Then our income is taxed, or fuel is taxed, all government services are not free anymore. Even our interest on savings is taxed. On top of that our government is going farther and farther in debt here in America.
Most other countries have the same problem. Russia and China have to remain in balance and their citizens also pay for everything military. The people who build the weapons do not pay for them, the consumer or citizen pays for everything.
If they were to take all of the military spending away in all the countries and get rid of the greedy people, there would be no starvation. The whole world seems to be becoming a scam. I am not to happy with this but can't do anything about it, these power hungry people control everything. Then there is the question to be answered, who exactly is instigating all of this. Seems that the arms buildup is in a perpetual motion, this will not lead us to a good place. Nobody actually has control and since all of the heads of governments cheat on the treaties, it is not possible to reduce this trend.
We are a violent race of beings. The ones running things world wide should be removed from power so we can just get along. But removing one person only leads to the same kind of person taking over, that is the problem. I don't see a way of fixing this.
If hell opens up the governments have enough power to blow them back into hell.

Most people don't realize that something like 90% of the goods sold throughout the world are delivered by ship. In order to protect this ships traveling the oceans of the world takes an incredibly huge weaponized navy. For many years nobody could mess with the US in this aspect. Now the technology of today has allow other countries to make he power of the US navy for a much smaller cost.
This is why the Chinese have built islands in the shipping lanes testing the veracity of the US but they knew all along the US is at its weakest in many decades. THe saber rattling game of strength continues today just with higher tech weapons than before. 727sky the us has had reentry weapons since the early 89's my ex brother in law used to work on them and they were considered very top secret. He was a nam vet that went to school to learn the missile systems on the fidgets and destroyers.

I am all for a strong military but there is no excuse for the excessive costs and funding that occurs in the DOD. The US government subsidizes the Military Industrial Complex at an un restricted level. You can argue abou whether there is corruption within the welfare system until you are blue in the face. This has always been an issue. Even in nations where socialism works well it is an issue. If done right and balanced it can be dealt with in a more measured way while helping those who depend on it get off of it. There is no excuse for the excessive waste and there is no excuse for the inequality in the US. If you want people to be accountable then empower them and give them the resources needed to be more accountable. The government prints money faster than it can spend it and it wastes more than it spends on it's people. It is a systemic issue all around. Until it stops no good can be had by our great Nation being the best it can be.
Frankly, I could care less about the Space program and that's even with all of the great break thrus we have gained by exploring it. It was a huge expenditure that ran rogue as well and quite quickly and served as the public face for the military element. It's time we start taking care of our own little heap of rock and it's residents. We need balance in our endeavors and the war machine and excessive spending on that war machine is not the answer.

I would also like to talk to those countries where socialism works, the people paying exorbitant amounts into it might say different. When looking at the systems of finance throughout the world in conjunction with with government controls there isn't even anyone close to the productivity of the US as well as the achievements, accomplishments, and out right giving through charity this country has done, I would like someone to name a socialist country that gives to other countries, how much is Putin spending feeding the poor? The only country in the EU not on the verge of being belly up is Germany, South AMerica doesn;t get a mention, it's broke. Socialism is a vehicle for politicians to get elected by a body who only understands "Give Me" and they don't care who you take it from in the process.

The governments in the US collect about $4.2 trillion in a year income and payroll taxes. Income tax is where governments collect the most tax: in federal, state, and local income tax they will collect about $2.3 trillion in 2016.
* In federal fiscal year 2014 (October 1, 2013 to September 30, 2014), the federal government collected $3.0 trillion in revenues, which were comprised of 46% individual income taxes, 34% social insurance taxes, 11% corporate income taxes, 3% excise taxes, 1% custom duties, 0.6% estate and gift taxes, and 4% miscellaneous receipts.[4]
* In 2013, state and local governments collected $1.5 trillion in taxes, which were comprised of 34% sales taxes, 30% property taxes, 23% individual income taxes, 4% corporate income taxes, 1% social insurance taxes, and 8% other taxes.[5]
* Per the U.S. Government Accountability Office, when government spends more than it collects in revenues, the resulting debt is "borne by tomorrow's workers and taxpayers." This burden can manifest in the form of higher taxes, reduced government benefits, decreased economic growth, inflation, or combinations of such results.[6] [7] [8] [9]
* In 2014, the gap between federal, state and local government revenues and spending was $805 billion or an average of $6,534 for every household in the U.S link
If citizens handled their household budget like the government runs the country's budget we'd all be in debtors prison.
Nugget, Ya know nugget I always hear about how much the military spends, and how we could save more people, feed more people, have a better medical system bla bla bla. But the reality is we spend way more on social programs etc. etc.
At least with the military spending we create jobs, for engineers, and the educated the left believe are the answer to all things "college educated".
You are so right about managing money at home and debtors prison, but I do believe it's coming back. The old folks will have their day because we survived all these years when we saw the writing on the wall and realized their debt scheme to enslave the public. As they say "every dog has his day".

I could actually tell some stories about military spending and waste but you really have to look no farther than the latest cash cow called the F-35.. So I tend to agree about that kind of waste.
People are like rats. You give them a place to live and a steady food source and they will breed; plenty of time because they don't work and is one of the few pleasures readily available excluding drugs.... As the population increases they turn on each other and start killing over a better nest or their neighbors tennis shoes. You can look no further than such garden spots as Chicago and Detroit for proof what goes on in the public housing projects.
Oh but we could feed cloth and educate the poor... Talk to any inner city teacher ... The kids who are born into a life where momma is a breeder (for more government handouts) and has 6 kids by 6 different daddies just don't stand a chance.. The neighborhood gangs do the raising.
Living over seas where I am there are no government handouts or very seldom if any.. We have free medical for the population and drugs that would cost USD 65 cost around $2/$3. Last doctor I had an appointment with it cost me just about $3, no kidding !
Around here it is a form of a socialist society for everyone in the family does their part for the family. I have seen girls work in bars to help pay for their brothers college education and whole families come to the aid of a family member who is sick; no one starves or probably less than in more progressive countries..... Either way government has nothing to do with any of it.. People will work all day in a rice paddy and only make USD 3/4 a pop.. Last unemployment figure I saw was 2%.. But that 2% is either sick or looking for a job because the families just don't put up with free loaders for very long. IMO the less a government administers the better the population is provided for.. For every 4 dollars of money collected for some government welfare program one dollar gets to the people according to the last figures I saw. 3 are ate up by administration cost... plus big government is nothing but a great opportunity for big corruption.. All those government workers get paid holidays and for the most part (not the military) have great working conditions if they can put up with the government B.S..
My brother is a bureaucrat and makes big bucks handling and managing several departments of a states government. He just shakes his head at many of the federal forced programs he has to try and administer. Money means nothing to the feds unless they get on a cutting kick or want to burn someone for corruption.
Social security is going broke but you seldom hear how welfare is going broke; even though there are cases after cases of fraud and abuse.
I think we all around here can agree most of the stuff is a farce no matter how great sounding the governmental sound bite is.

I was raised to take care of my own myself. I grew up dirt poor. We never had food stamps. Could have but never did. The community takes care of itself when there is no crutch. I agree. Like I said. It's systemic. It's an all encompassing system issue. It's not just government spending but social, economic and cultural.
