We just watched the season finale of Galavant and I am so sad that it is already over. It aired last night and we DVR'd it, though we usually watch it as it airs and then support the advertisers and let them know that we are supporting them for sponsoring our favorite show. It is another show that fans of musical theater might like. Each episode is 30 minutes, but the network shows two episodes in a row. It is also a musical. A hysterical musical. Alan Mencken - famous for his work with Disney - composed the songs and they always had a bit of a nod to other musicals themes or to songs that he had written for other productions. Clever, but not overbearing about it. The writing is just as hysterical as the songs are. The best part, for me, is that they never took themselves too seriously. They were a cheesy musical comedy and they never forgot that and had tons of fun with it.
The cast is great. The first season had a ton of big names as guests and this second season had a few, but relied more on the writing than big guest star names. The main cast wasn't filled with big name stars. Joshua Sasse played the title role, Galavant, and I was not familiar with him as an actor (or a vocalist) before this show, but am a big fan now. My favorite character was King Richard, played by one of my favorite actors, Timothy Omundson, who also played Lassiter on the comedy Psych (another of my favorite shows). I wasn't very familiar with the rest of the cast before this, but am a fan of every single one of them now. They all had some amazing comedic ability and really great vocal talent.
This is one that is on Amazon, but not Netflix - which I hate because I only have Netflix and not Amazon Prime - but I am still crossing my fingers and toes hoping that it will be released on DVD at some point. Or, at least, if nothing else, I would just about kill for the soundtrack to be released. The songs were catchy as heck and I would love to have them to listen to whenever I wanted.
I was just curious if anyone else watched this show and what you thought of it.
Take care,
Cindi
