It's been thought that since the end of WWII that the Nazi's had hidden bases in Antarctica to continue working on the exotic experiments from the Nazi bell to Atomic Bomb, some researchers think they achieved the ability to make a Atomic Bomb but it was never seen to be true. They thought the bell was the ultimate weapon. Admiral Byrd did a expedition after the war with provisions to last months but came back after a few weeks claiming that we would have to fight flying objects that could fly from pole to pole in minutes. Nazi followers thought it was exotic flying machines that the germans created and UFOlogist thought it was UFO's. It remains to be seen which it could have been or just possibly Nazi sub bases below the ice. Either way maybe the British will go and check it out if not for historical reasons but to answer decades old questions as to their existence and who if anyone occupied them. Maybe the next report will be the existence of UFO's flying about under the ice and the disclosure everyone is worried about.
I find it interesting "Specially-designed equipment" was used, this tells me they were looking for something in the first place. One has to wonder considering the location, cost, and dangers of weather what they thought they should be looking for. Was it time to find out if Nazi's were indeed there? Doesn't seem likely or did someone convince the British government that the possibility of a UFO base existed below the ice. For there to be a Nazi base to continue exotic experiments it would have taken huge sums of power, specially to continue working on the bell. It's unlikely that there was enough time after the war to setup a base with the necessary power infrastructure while South America was as easy as a cruise across the ocean, where the weather was great and power was already there.
"A team of British scientists has discovered tunnels that are almost as tall as the Eiffel Tower under an ice shelf in Antarctica.
Researchers from a number of UK universities and the British Antarctic Survey - a research centre based on the continent - detected the tunnels when they flew a plane over the Filchner-Ronne Ice Shelf in West Antarctica.
Radar from the plane, as well as satellite photos, revealed that ridges and cavities on the surface of the ice sheet corresponded to tunnels lying at its base.

"The 820-foot tunnels are nearly as tall as the Eiffel Tower - which measures just over 987 feet - and more than four times as tall as Tower Bride - which comes in at 213 feet.
Researchers concluded that the placement of the tunnels means that they were most likely formed from meltwater - water released from melting ice - that flowing underneath the ice sheet, over land, and into the ocean.
The data revealed that water moved beneath the ice in concentrated channels, similar to rivers.

"Specially-designed radar equipment deciphered the tunnels under the ice - it can also be used to pick out layers within the ice itself.
Longer-term monitoring from the air can be used to record the break-up of ice sheets or atmospheric changes.
The British team will now use its newfound knowledge of the under-ice tunnels to predict how exactly that ice shelf will melt in response to climate change.
The researchers published a paper about their work in the journal Nature Geoscience.
