While I ask myself WTF? It occurs to me for decades we have given much more than this to people in the US to fight hunger, poverty, and homelessness with little result. Today the largest part of the US budget goes to buying votes for politicians through social programs in the United States. The major difference here is the government takes your money to do it and Gates gives it up willingly. This article makes the Gates foundation into a bad guy when in essence it uses it's investments to make yet more money in an attempt to do more good things.
I didn't notice what the Pontiac Tribune or the Los Angeles Times was doing in the way of donating large sums of money in any way shape or form.
The idea of investing in corporations not actually benefiting society is nothing new. But the way to break yourself of this endless craziness as well as not help by investing in black budget programs through the backdoor is monitor your investments and stay away from military industrial complex corporations in your retirement or investment portfolio. Don't invest in corporations like Raytheon, Boeing, General Dynamics, etc. stick with someone like Amazon for example. Maybe Gates should require his foundation to do the same but fair is fair. Waste that affects the citizens of the US should be looked at much closer by the republic and demand better controls. Pay closer attention to your investments if you have them and know where your money is being put. Stay out of big banks, and stick with the locals who finance your neighbor's house and not bombs and bullets.
While none of these investments looks good for the Gates Foundation who is doing more for Africa, and the poor? Mother Jones has done some good reporting in the past but I feel they missed the mark on this one.
"37% of Bill Gates’ net worth would end world hunger. Instead, he invests billions of dollars into corporations blamed for many of the same health issues the Gates Foundation seeks to cure."
