Hello,
I am concerned about a member here, who has been absent from the boards for something like 25 days, and has not been returning email either.
Ante Bellum is the member in question. I have no idea if mentioning that is a violation of any rule or policy here, and if it is, I apologise. As contacts on the net, we are just words and avatar images to one another, but that means that if whatever words and meaning a person conveys, engenders feelings of companionship and solidarity, that we essentially form connections to persons who are outside our immediate sphere of awareness.
If a local friend of mine appears to drop off the planet, I just visit them and see what the hell is going on. I cannot do that in this instance, owing to the ocean between myself and AB. The distance between us however, is no impediment to my being concerned for her welfare.
Does anyone know if she is ok, or have any way to find out?
Hi Pre, I've done a quick check over on TOS and she hasn't been there either since Sep27th. That's quite worrying too, because I know she was a regular on there. I'll ask around there to see if anyone knows anything. Thanks for mentioning this. regards, G
premortemvivisection, Is it possible her computer fried? Maybe internet trouble? Our modem fried and we were without internet for a bit since not a single store in town had any. Boy, those things don't come cheap, either!
I hope you are able to connect with AB again, soon.

I know that if I were absent there is no one in my life that is aware of my activities here or on the other side that could offer an explanation. I have but one friend that I would even discuss these subjects with outside of the discussion boards I post on and that friend doesn't know my activities online or would even give such a thing consideration if I couldn't post on the forums.
Not even my better half has any idea of my activities online and since I got out of Facebook, I'm unknown now to those who had known me there. Hell, when I left Facebook, I sent a message to all my closest friends and relatives telling them I intended to leave and gave them my home phone number, cell phone number, email address and physical address. Other than my siblings and a cousin who I have contact with anyway, only one person has contacted me from that information and it was a college friend I hadn't heard from in 23 years (outside of FB). He called me just a couple of weeks ago and I've been off Facebook for three or four years now.
Perhaps we should think of some method to keep our forum friends informed in case we become incapacitated or God forbid, in case we have passed on. One way would be to have instructions to post a message on the forums we frequent in case the worst were to happen. A notice to be posted on our behalf if we were unable to do so ourselves.
Since I have had a brush with death and was severely injured in an accent last August, I've been thinking of making out a will and including such an online message seems like a good idea as well. I'm sure the girlfriend would make the announcement and send the messages for me.
That seems like the best idea for this type of situation, we should all consider doing something like this. There are many people we have an online relationship with, or we have made an impression on, who would want to know.
Yes, we have members' E-mail addresses, at least we have what they gave us, we have to trust in their accuracy. We also have IP addresses. So, if they're not playing games with software to hide themselves we can come up with a rough location. There are, of course, some Internet search engines available.
Please know that these things are used very rarely and only by staff. This seemed to me to be an appropriate use. We had one Moderator leave us in the earliest days of Hernando's because he misused the E-mail address of a member. We are (or had better be) very concerned with the privacy and feelings of our members. Let me repeat (for the hundredth time) our motto: "Nobody messes with a Hernando, not even another Hernando."

I really appreciate the assistance here folks.
This has been worrying me for some time now, and I am glad that others are on it, others more able to affect some sort of investigation than I am at present. Cheers!

premortemvivisection, is she the one who has the avatar with all the white on it? I saw that just last week, but I don't remember where. I visit several different boards. I have asked on them if she is a member, but I haven't had a reply yet. I'll let you know if I find anything out.

premortemvivisection, I checked and they said she is on another site under a different name, and they just saw her recently. I hope that eases your mind. If you can send me a message of her first real name, (if you know it) they can check and see when exactly she posted last, but they know it wasn't long ago.

Well,
I am not entirely certain that we operate on a first name basis, in that I do not know her first name, and as far as I know I have not been given that information. It is entirely possible that I have been given that information, and have simply forgotten it, because my brain is a fickle and chaotic device at the best of times, and this is by far the best of times.
However, whether I knew and have forgotten, or had no clue to begin with, I cannot tell you her name, since I do not have that information.
I am, however, abundantly pleased to hear that she is still around and not under a car in a ditch somewhere, or lost in the woods or some such.

I have not received a reply to my E-mail yet. At least it wasn't returned as undeliverable. It's sort of a good news, bad news situation. She's functioning, but she's not functioning here. Patience is the prescribed medicine.
