An object 7' long is due to hit down in the Indian Ocean near Sri Lanks on November 13, 2015. Officials have no idea what it could be, but....!
The object is only 1 to 2 metres (7') in size, and its trajectory shows that it has a low density, and is perhaps hollow.
I think it may be a probe from a distant galaxy looking for evidence of that illusive creature native only to plant earth, Cthulhu! But I haven't had very extensive training in astrophysics.
Researchers call it sheer coincidence that a newly discovered piece of space junk is officially designated WT1190F. But the letters in the name, which form the acronym for an unprintable expression of bafflement, are an appropriate fit for an object that is as mysterious as it is unprecedented.
'WTF' certainly sounds like a highly technical term that the scientific community would use to disguise their bafflement!
It could be a spent rocket stage or panelling shed by a recent Moon mission. It is also possible that the debris dates back decades, perhaps even to the Apollo era. An object seen orbiting Earth in 2002 was eventually identified as a discarded segment of the Saturn V rocket that launched the second mission to land men on the Moon.
link That's not nearly as exciting as my theory, but that's okay. There seems to be a lot of man-made 'junk' floating above us.
More than 21,000 orbital debris larger than 10 cm are known to exist. The estimated population of particles between 1 and 10 cm in diameter is approximately 500,000. The number of particles smaller than 1 cm exceeds 100 million. link
While this doesn't exactly qualify as doom porn, with a little imagination I bet we could make something really exciting out of this!
