There were an estimated 1,928,465 burglaries resulting in about $4.5 billion in property losses in the US alone in 2013!
Some people have to take matters into their own hands to do something about it.
This convenience store owner was tired of being robbed multiple times and having the thieves get away, so he set up a trap and recorded what happened. This was pretty clever... and funny! I like it!

I was under the impression that setting a trap for thieves was against the law, at least here in Michigan that is. You know how those criminals have more rights than the hard working, tax paying, law abiding citizens.

I did not know that. That's just not right!
Well, I'd say a man has every right to build rooms as he chooses for his business. It's just the "bad luck" for the criminals if they go through the door that won't allow them to leave.
Setting a trap is illegal, yeah. In fact, if someone dies from a boobytrap, it can be a Capital crime in some states. I.E...Death Penalty qualifying special circumstances. However, that wasn't a trap in that sense. Nothing hurt the guy. He was just locked IN a place he illegally entered in the first place. He trapped himself by stupidity.
I don't know any law that says you must have an operable exit when no one remains in the building, so a burglar can exit without hassle.
