Okay, in life there are degrees of bad. There are degrees of mistake. For instance, one may say there is 'poor, bad and worse'. Perhaps, in a rare instance, calamity could fit on the end of that string.
This would be a moment of "oops" that really needs a tag all its own.
It is difficult to use "oops" as the term here, without feeling a profound sense of understatement. Mistake? The word seems so.....lacking to the moment. Pooch-screw? The last time a poor canine got this kind of treatment, someone formed the ASPCA to prevent further occurrence of it!

Good god..what did they do? Score a damned bullseye right down the building's core or what? 10 dead, I could see from splash damage resulting from a near miss or hit within the Hospital compound. Dozens still missing? Okie Dokie...that tells me there is enough hash, trash and rubble to still be missing IN..that we have a MAJOR problem here.
I'm also very very confused here. How the hell could this have happened?!
I know all about Fog of War and the communication issues of a battlefield, but this was an air strike apparently called from Afghanis for support ..and I've read repeatedly now, for a couple YEARS..that it is easier to call in stateside reinforcement than it is to get a single airstrike cleared for close support in Afghanistan. At least where a civilian might be anywhere nearby to so much as get ringing ears from the shock wave.
How did they miss the fact they were bombing a hospital, in a city our forces have been a part of for over 10 years!?

Twelve local staff members of Doctors Without Borders and at least seven patients, three of them children, were killed after an explosion near their hospital in the northern Afghan city of Kunduz that may have been caused by a mistaken U.S. airstrike.

At least 37 other people were seriously injured--19 staff members and 18 patients and caretakers, the organization said. Dozens were missing, raising concerns the death toll could rise.
