The kid and her boyfriend wanted to set up her telescope to watch the eclipse and try to take some pictures of it. The pictures taken without the telescope were tiny and didn't turn out well, but she took some really neat pictures through the telescope.
I hope the size comes out okay on these. We had a really nice time watching with fantastic weather for the most part. Some light clouds drifted past here and there, but it was mostly clear. The kids had a great time with taking pictures (holding the camera lens on the phone up to the view finder on the telescope and snapping pics) and trying out some of the filters that she has. No pictures with the filters, unfortunately, but I loved how she was able to capture detail and see the craters so clearly. They sort of showed up in the pictures, even.
I would love to see any other pictures that anyone else was able to get!
What a pain in the ass it is to try to take photos through a scope without a attachment. I used a spotting scope and tried to take some, but only three of them came out somewhat less sucky than the others.
Beware the man who has one gun, he probably knows how to use it.
I had a quick peek at it last evening, before going to bed and it looked a lot like you second picture but with a little more red. Was eerie, like looking at a big round rock hanging there in the sky. Didn't get a picture though, I did think of it but thought that my cell would make it crappy...all the while forgetting that I had my camera a few feet away...my brain was obviously changing gears for bedtime lol ...
Thanks guys for sharing, great pictures all of you !!
We were on the road most of last night but it was cloudy, so the moon was not as visible for us But now I can look at what we missed out on with your images
I was just over at that other place checking my thread and noticed one of the "Top Threads" mentioning a strange cloud formation during the eclipse. It seems a lot of people saw this in that area, and one person made a You Tube video.
Check this out! Is that a UFO trying to hide inside a cloud? What in the world could have caused this?!

Wow awesome find MW! I can't see that being any kind of natural formation and it is the typical V shape we have seen with previous UFO sightings, I also find it interesting that so many people spotted it, it was obviously not just there for a short amount of time.
