Okay, when we look up political missteps and self inflicted wounds that matter....the following will have to rank up there for candidate level politics. It just must. It surely rates near the top for accomplishment of pure ....I dunno...? IS it hate? Or just flat out bigotry?
From this Gentleman...I'm rather shocked to have to consider bigotry, but to think it is limited to race or even by race is perhaps dangerously ignorant in and of itself, eh?
Republican presidential candidate Ben Carson says Islam is antithetical to the Constitution, and he doesn't believe that a Muslim should be elected president.
Carson, a devout Christian, says a president's faith should matter to voters if it runs counter to the values and principles of America.

You know, I opened the report on this, open to the possibility that he really had something to support that with. Some definite line of Islamic values to say "Ah-HA!" as a gotcha to Constitutional values and point of outright contradiction. Such a thing COULD exist, though I am not only ignorant of it myself, but I DO know the Constitution makes clear Religion is to play *NO* part. Not FOR...not AGAINST...not in CONSIDERATION. PERIOD.
Carson's comments drew strong criticism from the country's largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, the Council on American-Islamic Relations.
"To me this really means he is not qualified to be president of the United States," said the group's spokesman, Ibrahim Hooper. "You cannot hold these kinds of views and at the same time say you will represent all Americans, of all faiths and backgrounds."

It really annoys me when someone so far into Crazy-Town from 'MY OWN SIDE' pops up, that I have to agree with people I'd normally consider the very example of extreme on the wrong side. In this case tho? Damned if the CAIR people don't have a point. (grumble grumble..and broken frak...g clocks are right twice a day..but I digress...grumble..)....
Anyway..back to Carson.....and hey, whose side IS THIS guy on anyway? Is he here to HELP the conservative side of America as he's presented..or is he here to put such a damn nut job, hateful face on it.....Hillary really *COULD* win??
In the NBC interview, Carson said he believes that Obama was born in the U.S. and is Christian, saying he has "no reason to doubt" what the president says.
Carson also made a distinction when it came to electing Muslims to Congress, calling it a "different story" from the presidency that "depends on who that Muslim is and what their policies are, just as it depends on what anybody else says."

Well lets hear it for the man having a grasp on reality, anyway (no offense to the birthers...but ..umm..dead horses are beaten less, before giving up..erm..)
HOWEVER.....if he figures its now right to EVER define a man by his personal Faith first, and before that of his character or ability to be a man for values that count? Then he's representing a reality I want absolutely NOTHING to do with.
Today....perhaps blocking Islamic followers as a blanket thing is cool. What is it tomorrow? What "modern" considerations do we figure we're good enough to assume into the document that has kept us from the train wrecks of other nations for well over 200 years? In fact....ignoring the very core and central purpose of it?
.......I won't personally vote for a Muslim during these war years, any more than I'd have thought it intelligent to vote a Japanese in the 40's or a German in the 30's. Some things shouldn't need explained as a bad idea for timing in history ...but this man isn't talking about judgement and timing for loyalties. He's suggesting FUNDAMENTAL incompatibility for a WHOLE CLASS which includes multi-generational, GOOD American citizens.
Carson just 100%, absolutely and without *ANY* hope of recovery...lost my vote. I can tolerate ignorance. I CANNOT tolerate bigotry...and Carson is too damned intelligent a person to ever mix one for the other.
My two cents in the jelly jar says.......
** When he isn't trying to be President, such a thing is as much his right as it is mine or anyone else's to voice as a private citizen. As a man trying to represent a diverse nation, he likely just alienated a % because of who or what they call Holy and how they choose to Pray to it. He's no leader I'd follow....whatever the Faith even turned out to be, he'd set that by. We need a leader to all, not just who they want to lead ....because Obama has shown us what the picky path looks like already (from another direction).
