The American Police State - Who Has the Advantage?

Politically, I'm afraid I'm a little two dimensional. Many problems resolve themselves for me if I ask if this is a "big government" move. Big government believes that Americans cannot be trusted with their own lives, so the more gifted and talented "rulers" have to make our decisions for us.

Increase the scope of the police by writing new laws, such as banning the sale of single cigarettes, increase the power of the police, increase the control.

For me, the Democrats are fairly united around the idea of big government. The Republicans sort of go along, they just want the growth of government to be a little slower. Then, under the Republican tent, are the Tea Partiers and some Libertarians.

There seems to be a chance for the Republican party to be turned to a smaller government, and no chance that the Democrats will.

The profits? Big government is in a position to grant big favors to certain businesses in exchange for their support and contributions. Put in a tax loophole to favor one industry on the condition that they go along with whichever party gave them the break.

I don't know if that's an answer, but it may be a start.
