Twice lately when I turn on my computer a screen pops up saying there is a conflict created by someone having the same IP address on my network as me. That's not word for word, but that's pretty close, if memory serves me. What is causing this? Is someone hacking into my computer, or could there be another answer?
I bought this computer from a guy who builds them and sells them at a great price. Could it be something he has put in it that he uses in all his computers? Could it have anything to do with my wi-fi?
I have Windows 7 Ultimate, and use Firefox browser.
How can I check to see if I have a hacker, or a backdoor open?
That would mean my daughter or step-son is a member here, or else they are getting into my face book account. That would be the only sites I go that would require a password, other than my e-mail.
I BETTER NOT CATCH THEM GOING INTO MY ACCOUNTS!!!!
Do they have to be logged in using my computer, or could they be on a tablet using my wi-fi?
Ever get the following message when turning on your computer or taking it out of sleep mode?
There is an IP address conflict with another system on the network
You may also see a different error message for the same problem:
This IP address is already in use on the network. Please reconfigure a different IP address.
This occurs when two computers on the same LAN network end up with the same IP address. When this occurs, both computers end up not being able to connect to network resources or perform other network operations.
This problem, though rare, can occur because of the following reasons:
Two computers are assigned the same static IP addresses One computer is assigned a static IP address that falls into the DHCP range for the local network and the same address is assigned to a computer by the DHCP server A laptop is put into sleep mode and then turned on while connected to another network that uses the same IP address If you have multiple network adapters, it is possible for a to have an IP address conflict with itself

Personal Disclosure: I am not an IT expert, I just know how to google search very well.
The IP address- as I understand it- comes from MY home. Grandbaby loge in on the desk top to FB with her user name, and doesn't log out. If I try to log in to FB on the desktop, I can't- because a user on thet computer (her) is already logged in.
Same with other sites I want to visit- like Youtube. A computer will only allow one person to be logged into a specific site ate a time, and if they don't log out, you can't log in.
