Rape is one of the worst, most repulsive and most animalistic crimes our society has defined one person doing to another. It's hard to imagine, short of murder or torture, a crime more personal to be worse than Rape.
Despite this, schools around the nation have, for quite some time, treated the rape of their students by other students as something less than the serious criminal act it actually is. Make no mistake, I'd say, rape is a VERY serious felony crime there should be NO plea bargain permitted from, and NO reduction or deals in sentence with.
Those who would cover it up, should be prosecuted with conspiracy after the fact, or similar charges of a felony class all their own. No less a fate SHOULD await those who would encourage the crime, by the coddling of those that commit it.
Case in point...The University of San Diego and their apparent cover-up to protect a rapist on their own campus here.
I have personally watched, with my own eyeballs, rape reports suppressed and buried in not one but TWO Federal Job Corps centers. The women were hurt, badly, but the scumbags who did it walked away with nothing local cops could do but look on and pout. There are unique issues in play when a crime happens on a federal reservation, which those places are (Similar to a military base for status with local law enforcement..but that is more for another thread). NO PLACE, let alone a University, should have any status whatsoever to handle and suppress a rape report.
In fact, they should be required BY LAW to pass on and file a report with proper law enforcement officials on every single accusation, to allow REAL cops that have REAL authority to investigate and then pass on for prosecution as a situation may demand. School cops protecting school statistics and school money ....aren't the best people to protect innocent people being brutally victimized.
Is rape that cheap and common a thing at U of San Diego? Are their students violently raped so often, they treat the matters as routine to blow off?? It would seem so...as this was sure as hell no "date rape". This one is the very model of 'forcible violent rape'.
They went further tho....and I think there is an assistant dean of that school which, if we had a nation respecting the rule of law, earned a MAJOR felony crime of his own.
If that isn't the definition of tampering with and interfering with a witness to a crime...what the hell is?? He all but outright threatens the victim to follow procedure outside regular law and justice systems.....or else? Umm... If I said that to someone, on almost anything at all, that would constitute a crime and one I'd very likely be prosecuted on for actual prison time. They get kinda mad when someone tampers with and intimidates witnesses...at least, in most places they do.
There is another detail I would have honestly missed, personally, as I don't know this school well......but perhaps it matters. Perhaps not. It doesn't take this detail for a school to suppress the crime of rape and intimidate victims into silence. Plenty do that without this last factor to add to the issues we see here.

So..I guess the bottom line here is...if looking at a Southern California University to attend? Perhaps finding one that doesn't give rapists a big hug and free pass, while all but crucifying the victims would be a decent suggestion.
...and I'm very serious about saying people who commit crimes in the process of covering up or attempting to suppress reports of felony crime should be prosecuted to the fullest extent. I don't care who they are, where they come from, what their authority is, or what their gender and/or race is. If they favor a criminal over a victim, let them join the side they love so much ...and introduce them to prison life for a long term stay.
That is what I say!

The University of San Diego refused to call police after a student was raped in her dorm room and punished her after she reported it, she claims in court.

Campus police didn't even hold the alleged rapist for questioning, Doe's attorney said.
"This case is particularly egregious because the girl was raped on campus, and then campus cops confront the rapist and tell him to leave," without questioning, attorney Daniel Gilleon told Courthouse News.

She claims the man raped her on Feb. 9, 2014 in her dorm room on the USD campus. "The rape included forced vaginal penetration and forced oral copulation. The multiple acts of rape were accomplished through physical force, violence (e.g., choking), threats of violence, intimidation, coercion and imprisonment," the complaint states. (Parentheses in complaint.)

Adding insult to injury, Doe says, USD assistant dean Dayanne Izmirian told her at a hearing that the university would not protect her if police investigated the rape, that she had to rely on the university to conduct its own investigation, and that Izmirian "heightened Doe's distress by presenting her with a threatening 'no contact' letter ... that threatened Doe with 'sanctions' if she contacted Roe or spoke to her friends about the rape."

Established in 1949, the University of San Diego is a private Roman Catholic university in Alcala Park, overlooking Mission Bay. It offers more than 60 graduate and postgraduate degrees in several areas, including law, engineering, nursing and business administration.
