Mornin'
I just came across this article and thought that it would be perfect for an op-ed piece, as it seems to be becoming a taboo & controversial subject:
Ban Sex Robots Before They Get Going, Says Robot Expert
And so I wondered, after seeing such a doomsday title, what the reasons could be...
What I found out though, is that this is a recommendation by a Robot Ethicist at De Montfort University, Leicester, Dr Dr Kathleen Richardson to be precise.
A Robot Ethicist. I would presume that this stands for ethics but being French, I might get lost in translations. But as she is launching a campaign against sex robots, here are her reasons:
"Sex robots seem to be a growing focus in the robotics industry"...
Probably she's never heard of sex, drugs and rock & roll... which have always been in the center of certain money making businesses. News Flash #1; Sex sells.
"And the models that they draw on - how they will look, what roles they play - are very disturbing indeed."
Whew...where to start...
I am sure that the models they work on are young looking, pretty looking and that some of them are replicas of famous porn stars.
News Flash #2; We're talking Sex robots here, not Raggedy Ann kiddie dolls...
"what roles they would play - are very disturbing indeed."
No. The perspective of having Hillary Clinton as the next President is disturbing.
Again, what roles should a sex doll be expected to have...let me think here for a quick second...okay...I'm done.
News Flash #3; They will do anything you want them do do, anything you can think of, they'll do it, without questioning, without making you feel guilty, without reprisals.
I won't get into the possibilities here but one doesn't need an overactive imagination to get the point.
No. They will replace what some women simply refuse to do, which is casual sex, or other....ideas for which some women have too many 'ethics' to even try. You think this is wrong?
Have another question here. Have the female vibrators dehumanised men to some women - and then some? Ok. Thought so.
We? Who's We? A bunch of stuck up ethics fundamentalists that see sex as bad or Christian - oh Lord have mercy on anything too taboo - conservationists that see sex as a sin?
I bet it's one of those two possibilities but curious mind would still like to know.
News Flash#4; Relationships are very often detrimental, often times based on two specific problems; sex or money.
2015 here, not 1492.
Finally something I can agree with. Why wouldn't the demand be high?
Wanna see line ups day in day out at the sperm donor clinics? Equip them with sex robots.
Wanna see a cleaner / safer / healthier sex industry? Robots are the solution.
I see much more points in favor of than against.
And by the way, this isn't just female sex robots penetrating (pun intended) the robots industry...there are male robots are well and soon enough, I would imagine transgender robots making the rank.
Warning.
News Flash#5; here's a link to what we're talking about here:
Welcome to the Twenty First Century.
Let'sargue...I mean discuss...

The models are, generally, female and Dr Richardson thinks they will dehumanise women to some men - and then some.

"We think that the creation of such robots will contribute to detrimental relationships between men and women, adults and children, men and men and women and women,” she said.

The sex industry has always ben an early adopter of new technologies and experts think demand for “intimate robots” will be high.
