Been shopping the last few days, comparing internet pricing, auctions, flea markets and classifieds around town.
So after numerous attempts and the exact amount of failures I am now cigarette free. 40 yrs of smoking and not once have I been able to go a day without it. I have tried many times and never made it 24 hours...until now.
I finally said "That's it, I'm done!" and my wife said the same thing on the same day and we both quit 2 weeks ago on our 10th wedding anniversary and that was our gift to each other.
We both did it without killing each other as well. :)
How did we celebrate our milestone? We decided to put it into a visual and tangible perspective.
We were spending anywhere from $900 t0 $1100 per Month on cigarettes. Where we live in Canada it's between $13.75 and $14.75 per pack.
This is roughly what a half Month of smoking looks like to us now:
Looking at it this way has given us the strength to stay the course. There is no going back.
Gotta be careful tho, it's addicting.
ooooh...pretty shiny things. This is about half of my Monthly cost to smoke.

Jude, Quitting smoking should be a gold occasion! nah, i'm messing with you. congrats
As a creature of thought, my opinions are subject to change with the amount of knowledge and insight gained. The reason it's called the past is because it's already passed.
awesome Jude, well done. It took me about the same time and a few talks from doctors and nurses to get me to quit. A 60 degree temp, stainless table and a bunch of young women in there 20 looking at you laying there naked usually does the trick. Unless of course like me you're stupid and stubborn then it takes twice.
The thing I noticed the most is less of the mess. It's funny to when a smoker comes to the house now the second they open the front door I can smell it. I think everyone has that moment burned into memory that they miss smoking, for me it has always been fresh cut grass. After mowing the yard you stand there with the garden hose admiring your working having a smoke.
Congrats to you I know how hard it is. I can also tell you cigs are considered harder to quit than Heroin. I once took someone to rehab for help when they finally wanted it and that's what the counselors told me. I was amazed, but I didn't stop at that time and neither did the new patient.
Damn ..... smokes are expense over there ........ Get blackmarket smokes for about u.s .50 cents a pack over here ........ you lot getting ripped off .....
No intention quit smoking here ....... it calms my nerves when p.t.s.d acts up also keeps me from performing post natal abortions on all the idiots in the world ( oh and cigs make good time delay fuse on improvised demolitions devices ...... erm ...... meant on homemade fireworks to celebrate holidays ..... )
No wonder they want people to quit smoking. It must interfere with their OCD and when they quit they spend more money on things which helps the economy run. Tobacco is a good treatment for Bipolar and Skitzo, I guess that that is not the target though.
I smoke, I make my own cigarettes. I buy one 12 oz bag of tobacco and two boxes of filters every two weeks. I should invest in a pipe, I only smoke half the cigarette and throw it away. I could cut down my costs in half with a pipe. It costs me about forty bucks a month presently to smoke, If I got a small pipe, I could cut that down to about twenty bucks a month. Cost here to roll your own from regular pipe tobacco is about ten bucks a carton of ten or a buck a pack.
I have hashed out all the pros and cons of quitting along with the pills I would eventually need if I quit smoking. This included a lot of research on the chemistry of tobacco. Nicotine is not the only beneficial chemistry in tobacco, there are two or three others. I do not have the genetics that makes me susceptable to cancer from cigarettes, but that only protects a person who smokes less than a pack a day anyway.

I'm actually kind of glad it's so expensive here.
It gave me more reason to quit and having budgeted so much each Month at close to 1k, I can realize significant rewards as another incentive besides my health.
If I was only paying a buck a pack, what's the point of quitting? Health of course but the money is what put me over the edge.
One day, I might consider it, but for now, I still have some stress going on. One day when I can smoke what mother nature provided instead, that is. My smoke of choice has been clove cigarettes, which became clove cigars due to the family act they passed here back in 2008 banning flavored cigarettes. Djarum Black to be exact. About $5 a pack, 12 in a pack. Then I found a substitute for about 1/3 the price online which has saved me alot of money. But, I would be better off to just quit. One day.

Right now...US 14.60 per oz silver.
For you...3 packs = 1oz.
In Canada I pay $14.50 avg per pack and it's 19.39 per oz. Almost 1 oz per pack.

I've made up my mind. :)

Silver isn't a bad investment. It is better than gold, if something happens, nobody would have change for gold. Gold will drop against food. an ounce of silver wil still buy a bushel of potatoes, most people will not have more than that they are willing to sell to one person. so an ounce of gold would just buy a bushel of potatoes too, or nothing if you did not want to accept the offer.
