It can be broken down into 1/4oz pieces for fractional spending/trade or used as a 1oz whole. Purity: 9999
Just came across this in my daily silver search which I think some may find interesting. It's a beautiful piece of art.
From the armillary sphere, invented by Erathosthenes circa 200 B.C. An armillary sphere is a model of a globe that is split along it's equator and other meridians.
Jude, that is a neat way to have gold it looks like a better way to have disposable gold or silver without the worry of how do I get value of this already pre weighted real neat idea!!

It's pretty and all but for investing not a chance. It's selling for approx. $300 over spot because of the scarcity, design, etc.
It's a nice piece to have but I would rather have a blob of gold at spot. :) Or at least a breakable wafer that breaks down to 1/4 oz or even 1/10th of an oz. with no loss of weight per piece. Now we're talking currency.
I think one of the tricks for me with Gold and any kind of disaster thinking is the fact I know of no way to assay gold under primitive conditions like would be found in a disaster situation?
I'm really interested if someone knows a way that is both reliable and realistic? I know they sell kits, and nitric acid is the ultimate "acid test", eh? Still..I don't see that as all that realistic since those aren't household items to have around.
So...how do you keep from being ripped? I thought maybe Diamond would be safe for basic tests a lay person could do ..and then I took college geology and learned all to well how wrong the 'popular myths' are for 'proving its a real diamond'.
On diamonds, it isn't that it doesn't really cut glass either, because it does..it is the idea that many other stones don't do the same thing..which they do, as one example of.....what hope do we normal people have to know genuine metals and stones vs. high quality fakes in petty costume jewelry these days?

How to Test Gold Jewelry Without Acid
Gold was among the first metals to be mined and has been used for jewelry, embellishment and currency for thousands of years. Gold in its natural form is soft and yellow in color. Pure gold is called 24 karat, while gold that is 75 percent gold is 18 karat, 50 percent gold is 12 karat and 42 percent gold is 10 karat. Material with less than 10 karat gold is not considered to be gold in the United States. There are several ways to test items for gold without using acid or other chemical tests.
Things You'll Need
Glass Porcelain tile
Magnet Magnifying glass
Instructions
Scratch the gold item against a piece of glass. If the metal scratches, it is not pure gold and any gold content is low. Always use a section of the gold item that is less noticeable in case it scratches or leaves a mark.
Hold a magnet near the gold item. If the magnet is attracted to the item, there are other metals included in the material. Gold itself is very soft and non-magnetic.
Take a piece of unglazed porcelain and rub the gold item against it. If it leaves a black streak, the material is not gold. If it leaves a golden yellow streak, the item is gold.
Use a magnifying glass and examine the item closely. Most commercially produced jewelry in the United States will be marked with the gold purity, such as 24 karat (24K), 18 karat, 14 karat, 12 karat or 10 karat gold. The mark may be very small, hence the need for a magnifying glass.
n the first century BC the Roman architect Vitruvius related a story of how Archimedes uncovered a fraud in the manufacture of a golden crown commissioned by Hiero II, the king of Syracuse. The crown (corona in Vitruvius’s Latin) would have been in the form of a wreath, such as one of the three pictured from grave sites in Macedonia and the Dardanelles. Hiero would have placed such a wreath on the statue of a god or goddess. Suspecting that the goldsmith might have replaced some of the gold given to him by an equal weight of silver, Hiero asked Archimedes to determine whether the wreath was pure gold. And because the wreath was a holy object dedicated to the gods, he could not disturb the wreath in any way. (In modern terms, he was to perform nondestructive testing).
And here is a poor mans acid test using vinegar ...
How Do You Use Vinegar to Find Out If a Ring Is Real Gold or Not?
Vinegar is a versatile cleaner used around the house, in boats and cars, and in foods. Corn alcohol is mixed with other nutrients and fermented to create white vinegar or a form of ascetic acid. You can use vinegar to find out if a ring is real gold or not. You can also use white vinegar to clean metals.
Things You'll Need
Glass cup
1 cup white vinegar
Instructions
Pour the white vinegar into your glass cup. Do not add water. Glass cups.
Place the gold ring into the cup of white vinegar.
Let the gold ring sit in the cup of white vinegar for approximately 15 minutes.
Remove the gold ring and rinse with water. Real gold will shine while fake gold will change colors in reaction to the ascetic acid.
Personal note on vinegar. Obviously, you'll want white vinegar (clear) for anything like this, but I have to warn on something important when the comment to use it as a cleaning agent comes in.
I dropped a 9mm Springfield XD into a sonic bath, largely intact, once. It should have been fine too. That is what they are made for after all, for cleaning a whole weapon at once (It was partially stripped down of course..but 90% of the pieces went in together. I was using a new cleaning agent too. Vinegar. it has worked on everything else, like magic! ...and .ummm..it worked for this too.
When I pulled my beautiful 9mm handgun from the little tub to see the sparkling finish...I found it no longer HAD a finish. Anywhere. On anything.
Vinegar cleans metal alright. It strips it bare to remove everything...including any finish or treatments applied for positive reasons since it was made.
