should we be afraid of robots taking our jobs - yes

Robots have already taken millions of jobs from humans, I'm one of them!
Many of us see the idea of a clanking automaton endlessly toiling away
doing drudge work or a faceless droid swiftly moving it's metal arms beside
a conveyor-belt of industry.

But robots are already here.

Only a few years ago, a person wishing to research a topic would physically
travel to a library and using their nous, they would search for what they want.
Alone -yet with the assistance of the Librarian, they would delve into the books
and accumulate the information they want without any outside bias.

This wish would require commitment and scheduling the act within standard social
interactions. Being at work, family-time and other variables.

It hones the skills of organising and envisioning any possible events that
may hinder the task to gain further knowledge of a subject in such a way
that it can leave a person in a more-positive state that can assist in future
ventures.
It creates a self-confidence when having to speak... yes, speak, to another
and ask questions without the worry of being embarrassed about not knowing
the answer.

One could walk to their local grocery store and through interacting with the
person behind the counter, acquire their foods by using basic human social
skills.
Local news, points of view that are relevent in a community and work of one's
own social standing were cultivated in these areas and a trust could be formed.
You know, old-school human-stuff!

Today, a person can click on a web page and all their minor woes are dealt with.
Information -true or not, can be accessed at the push of a button.
Opinions and points of views are tossed around without a thought of the results
these sentiments. Many see this 'robot' we call the internet as nothing more than
a toy and yet others, look to it as a bible of truth.
(It's always been assumed that something written is very likely true!)

Many types of software takes away employment and granted, it's quicker and
it costs companies less money to maintain than a human's costs.
But we've lost so much along the way.

Here's an example:
A young person who has grown up with today's technology, steps out into the
world becomes independant. This person discovers that not all facets of how
we aquire a new home, set up billings and salary accounts, etc, many are not
covered by this cyberworld that is easy to access.

They find it odd that an answer to a simple request seems to take longer
than the arrival of a webpage on a computer screen. This young person is
confused why particular information isn't instantly to-hand and I believe this
is because of something we've lost along the way.

Patience, the understanding of what makes up the society we live in.
The appreciation that something we deem vital to us, is merely part of a task
to others who's only reward is money.
There are many reasons why your 'important' information is delayed and
by understanding this, a person can grow into a more well-rounded personality
and be able to adjust easier to any oncoming problems down the road of life.
That human element is the truly vital section of all of this.

We can learn to communicate again face-to-face, we can bargain better, negotiate
for all concerned and persuade with a sensible confidence that I'm certain would
bring about a better world. Discipline is what is what we need, the sense to commit
and deliver.
