I think we approach it from different angles when drinking alcohol would be seen as an indication of intelligence in the first place. (smirk)

Although, it actually does have a real issue to question. Alcohol is a nasty nasty intoxicant for ONE big reason, in this context. Once you start the ride, you're on the train till it stops, however many hours later. I'll bet judgement isn't better for the primates than it is for humans.
The difference is, most humans don't get drunk in a situation where they can go from quiet moments of grooming each other...to being eating violently, in a blinding attack...over the course of a moment or two.
Is that what it looks like for an Ape to work toward a Darwin award, perhaps?
