Guess western governments all talk no action as usual about fighting IS ..... In australia a 28 year old man was arrested for attempting to travel to iraq to join the kurds fighting against IS ....... oh wait if they defeat IS then they lose a good excuse to invade their citizens privacy and strip them of their rights ....... cant have people interfering with freedumb and dumbocrappy .......
So is the Australian Government FOR or Against ISIS? For or against the Kurds??
Outside that region itself? I don't see where these are such difficult policy questions. Of course, INSIDE that region, it takes a score card with instructions to keep the players clear ..but really? The guy runs off to join the GOOD GUYS and they slam him?
Well... I guess I should never consider running off to help the 'Australian Resistance' if that continent should fall under a bad sort of leadership in a real way sometime. We should let nature take its course and not interfere....eh? (shakes head to make sure this is reality and not a bad dream)
Scammy...... and the west notorious for shagging allies ...... look at the former republic of s. vietnam ..... cambodia pre-pol pot ...... or ask noriega...... saddam ..... oh oops he dead ...... ortega ...... the former shah of iran ...... castro ( he asked old scammy for help got told no ...... so he went to Ivan and Ivan said no problem which pissed off old scammy ..... ) it hazardous to ones health and freedom to be friends with scammy and the west as they tend to toss friends under the bus ......
Now the kurds getting hit by IS ..... Turkey ...... and The west ....... gotta admire the kurds courage in standing up and fighting against those odds ......
The problem is...Half the people on that list deserved what they got. Ngo Dinh Diem got a dose of royal karma one day, and that was that (our problem there was follow through to a real bad idea afterward), Pineapple head DID abuse U.S. servicemen and at least one wife with the PDF at checkpoints leading up to the final move to squash that bug. Of course, I'll grant we'd been in business with the runt before we went to kill him ..but that doesn't make HIM any better of a person, or less deserving of his fate.
You have a point with Castro. He did come to Washington first, and only after being told to literally 'go home and make an appointment' did he call Moscow to a happy 'Hello Comrade!'. That poor pooch got it right from the start for a pooch-screw. Then again, Castro is no sweetheart, and his prisons hold many a political prisoner to this day (the last we had were unceremoniously released not that long ago, and were tied up with the Puerto Rican rebel/independence fighters).
You know the one that gets me tho, going back to Vietnam? Uncle Ho-ho was a deep, strong potential ALLY but we 'Frenched' him for a buddy that would help pull us into World War II by their utter worthlessness as an ally. Of course...this being in terms of historical positions then. Uncle Ho was asking the U.S. to support the freedom for Vietnam ..not after World War II, but after World War ONE. Long before there was any reason to make anyone an enemy with anything...but talk about one blow off that came back to define BAD decisions in history.
All in all? I think its a mixed bag for the goods and bads of war and how such things have gone in our history. What I think is really striking is how preventable the bad is in hindsight.
