Yup.. You read that right. The wire story I just caught is not the first but the SECOND WHOLE DEPARTMENT in Oklahoma to essentially close its doors due to cops turning in their badges en masse, or in a way that didn't support the Police Dept operating any longer.
What is going on these days?? This latest situation has almost NO information yet, but perhaps we'll hear more soon. This is the little I got..
....(crickets)... Oh hell! I just went back to my wire to retrieve the story, and its gone! No kidding. Poof!
Anyway..the story HAD been no more than a few lines of the local paper reporting the Police Chief of Vian Oklahoma had quit, shuttering the Department until further notice, with the Sheriff's Office handling calls and emergencies for the city. (Original local piece ..with no wire story reappearing. Take it for what you will)
That was just the recent one...the earlier one this month has plenty said about it.
This one is a simple story of corruption among town officials and apparently, a Police Department already on the edge to just say 'screw ya all!'.

Petty corruption is an ugly thing, and petty is only a measure defined by those looking to minimize it, I suppose. Corruption is Corruption and there isn't a grey to THAT dark side, in my view.
Here is the story from another source though, and a bit more to quote for the absurdity of what happened here.....to get a whole department to walk out.
Yeah.. Unethical is one way to put it..I suppose.

It sounds like Chelsea has one heck of a corruption problem. I mean..really? When it is so bad the COPS are run out of town...maybe its time to forcefully remove some dirty town officials? It almost sounds like the start to a Walking Tall kind of movie, doesn't it??

A small town about two-and-a-half hours northeast of Oklahoma City is without a police force today after the entire police department resigned on Wednesday afternoon.
Conflict arose between officers and the town administration in Chelsea, Oklahoma—a city of approximately 2,000 people—back in May when Brian Haggard, a prominent member of the community, was arrested on DUI charges. City officials were then accused of pulling strings in an effort to make Haggard’s troubles disappear.

Haggard, who is the owner of a local construction and excavation company, then made a phone call to Town Administrator, Kenny Weast, who swiftly arrived on the scene.
“I can’t take him home?” Weast asked the officer.
“No sir, he blew over the legal limit,” Pappe explained.

According to ABC 8 Tulsa, after Officer Pappe made it clear that he would not be letting Haggard off with a warning, phone calls were placed asking for favors. One of those phone calls was from the town’s Police Commissioner to the Assistant Police Chief, Travis Hogan.
“I was shocked when I received the phone call from the Police Commissioner. I thought he knew better than that. But for him to call me and ask me if I would allow him to leave his home to the traffic stop and pick that individual up and take him home in lieu of even a citation much less an arrest, I find that highly unethical,” Hogan said.

In the weeks following the arrest and leading up to his resignation, Hogan stated there was unrest among the police officers. “My officers have received threats. Myself and the chief have received threats to our jobs,” he said.
