@marlingrace,That private museum also has security and protection of the collection which is appropriate to the value and danger of it being stolen.
Some people are almost insanely 'pro-2nd' to the most extreme it can be. No limits, no restrictions of any sort, and everyone ought to have a main battle tank in the driveway, with rounds stacked like cord wood if they choose.
Personally..I think mental instability and outright illness can show in any number of different ways. Unusually strong obsession with deadly weapons can certainly be one of them, and I see no reason it wouldn't be a reason to wonder. It isn't just guns..but I'd be just as worried if someone had an oddly (absurdly) large collection of edged weapons. At some point...you're either a businessman and doing business with them...or you're crossing into odd duck territory where people get hurt these days.
In a strictly pragmatic way though? In a big city area especially? I'd be IRATE to learn some goober had a residential home stuffed to make a National Guard Armory look wimpy, and on my street. There are people that kill, daily, for $20 in someone's pocket. Oh..what could go wrong bringing together enough to supply an army ... not necessarily intended by the original owner? lol...
I dunno..it's a fine line I think we need to find. As the Heller case defined us to be Militia and the right to bear arms to be an absolute principle ..they also left open the reasonable regulation. Even Dodge City in the 'old west' had a little regulation.
But as you can see the total confiscation of firearms and illegality of owning them isn't helping in Europe now is it. What I think is insane is the idea someone needs to determine what and how many of anything I should own. What's next one computer is enough as well? Or maybe one car because two would pollute, wait the left will restrict the amount of steel I can own because that could make 100 knives. What of Nugget, and her sewing ability she can make Confederate flags lets take away her sewing machine. Yeah it sounds stupid now, but so was their aggressive stance at getting rid of SUV's, and forcing law on 98% of a population from the 2% nobody cared about anyway. I will restrict the amount of guns when the government restricts the amount of illegals coming across the border. Or I will except gun restricting laws when the federal government starts following existing law now, at least fail a background check of someone that deserves to fail so that they can't shoot up another AME church, and the country loses it's mind.
I would rather walk through an entire city of 1200 gun firearm owners than 2 city blocks of Chicago where guns are illegal.
