It's comforting for me . . . I also tend to be too hard on myself.
Sometimes We Can Feel Like the "Harder We Try, The More Behind We Get"!
Often, we make a commitment in our heart before God, we will not do something in particular. Yet, the next minute we find ourself {ourselves} doing the exact same thing again and again.
We must be gentle with ourself {ourselves}. Overcoming takes time. We've been trained in certain ways of thinking, speaking and acting in our lives.... things our generations have been trained in. Our brain creates these pathways of thinking, speaking and acting. So physiologically we're actually programmed toward these pathways.
God created our brain in this special manner so when we think, speak and act in good ways, they become a way of life for us.... a way of joy, peace and love. The enemy has manipulated man to work out the destruction of God's plan. When we are trained in the ways of the enemy, it brings sadness, pain and torment.
There is hope. We can change. Those old pathways in our brain can die and we can form new pathways, but this takes time. So when we choose to cast down bad thoughts and think the way God does, we actually are working to change the physiology of our brain. Isn't that amazing?
2 Corinthians 10:5 Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;
Colossians 3:2 Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth.
So, let's keep on going God's way and love ourself {ourselves} in the journey. God has faith for us to overcome. We can join ourself {ourselves} with His faith for us and keep choosing the good ways. We can keep trying to do better and keep casting down bad thoughts. We can keep getting up when we fall. Remember, over time, it will get easier, so enjoy the journey with faith and hope for the future.
Just thinking!
He is absolutely right in terms of brain physiology.
The KJV Scripture about "AS A MAN THINKS IN HIS HEART--SO IS HE." is also experimentally demonstrated to be very accurate.
Beth Moore had a blurb yesterday or day before on

A great light praise station . . .
about how the power of satan to get us to be destructive to ourselves, to sin etc. is not sufficient to overcome the Blood of Jesus in our life
I think she's absolutely right. Going to work on that, with God's help.
Blessed be the Name of The Lord God of Israel.

we BELIEVE that we are powerless to avoid the behavior or whatever.
THAT OUR ACTIONS ALWAYS FOLLOW OUR BELIEFS ABOUT OURSELVES.
