War...The original gift that keeps on giving!

War is a constant in the human experience. Likely from the time one group of cavemen figured another group had prettier women or better chops cooking on the fire to capture. Perhaps...before even that.
Old school war tended to end with the battles though. The Battle of Thermopylae, or the famous '300' Spartans...didn't give anything afterward but inspiration to a Greek people to keep their freedom. The campaigns of Alexander the Great or the Mongols from the other direction spanned one continent and large parts of another, in both cases. War still ended when the fighting did. Swords didn't sit to be found decades later, to kill the unwary (Unless someone actually FELL onto one, sticking from the ground somehow..lol)
World War II brought the first form of war to change all that, and now? War is a gift that never really stops "giving" in the land it is fought. This morning? Its London with a little reminder...

Every so often someone finds a hand grenade with their potato harvest or a bomb in an excavation. Little wonder they would, too. At one point in the war (Around September of 1940), the German Luftwaffe proudly declared to have dropped over 1,000,000 kilograms of bombs into London in JUST the preceding 24hrs. World War II was a war on a scale never before imagined...but that sure left a lot to find in the years and generations to come, eh?
I suppose this is the difference between living in a place where war has flowed back and forth, many times....and living in a place where war has generally never touched.
