It seems that science has not been as scientific as we are led to believe it was. Now, a lot of things that we think are real are not actually more than assumptions made by people in the past. Partially right but the evidence was not correctly tested some times.
Read the first paragraph on this link and think about how someone's assumption could be passed on like a rumor and triggered research that was misdirected. Then read the rest. I see this happening a lot, people being steered in the wrong direction.
Now, if they admit their mistakes and learn from them, it could lead to advancement but this will probably be challenged because people do not want to think what they were doing was wrong. Move on and find the real way to get rid of this problem. I wonder if someone actually knew this but knew it would cause a reduction in the money coming in. I tend to think it was just a misconception myself. This new information will necessitate new research, as long as they are looking in the right direction it will be fine.

Money and pride are the sticking points...but, money wins between the two.
As long as we listen to those we are told to listen to...we'll have someone to blame, later.
What good does blaming others do? What good does the money from a lawsuit do if you are dead, and you need to prove that the meds actually hurt you anyway to be able to get anything. Does it matter who is right or who is wrong if you are a vegetable laying in a bed from a massive stroke?
People feel good when they sue someone but a lawsuit does not make things right unless the lawsuit is a scam. There is no way to sue anyone if the teachings they had did not include the truth, consensus of the time governs society. I see class action lawsuits as a scam. They should close down a company if they knowingly hid evidence that showed their product caused problems. The head of the company should be held liable personally. Drugs are silently taken off the market all the time, covering up wrongdoings by the Pharma companies most times. Belief in these pharma companies is what keeps them going.
So.... the White Coats could have been killing people with good intentions all this time, by telling people the exact OPPOSITE of the right thing to do? That about cover it?
Kinda like eggs..isn't it? One year, they are the best thing for health since the invention of the vitamin. Next year? They're little killers in a shell, that will shorten your life and lead to all kinds of nasty bad things. The year after that? 'Why are you eating your eggs?! They're good for ya!'
I think this is why I'd rather die natural, as fate intended...then let one doctor NEAR me for treatment I don't see the need for myself...*AND* can understand the basic process we're expecting it to cause.
I've lost two relatives now..and likely 3 over arrogant, ignorant doctors figuring 'we'll keep trying stuff until something works!' ....or the patient dies..whichever comes first. They don't mention that SECOND part in the patient talks, of course.
So your OP doesn't surprise me one little bit. It just kinda confirms a lot of people are putting their lives in the hands of others who are guessing as much as knowing, and could have been C students in the area you need them for ...you can't know either way, huh?
I think part of the issue with the medical sciences is that researchers take a certain route, though this is a good starting point or reference point, but a bad blanket cover, which is to go the blanket cover route with research & treatments. Not everything warned about is bad for every person, and not everything touted as next to perfection is good for everyone, either. There are healthy foods and activity levels out there that people swear by as being the key to their energy & health. Those same foods either don't do anything noticeable health & energy-wise for me personally, or drag me down a bit in energy & make me feel cruddy. Same for activity level -- strenuous exercise is a major energy set-back for me, low impact is the best for me. We're not carbon copies, everyone is a little bit different from the next person genetically (in more ways than the obvious "no shit" ways)
Medications are one of those areas that are also a blanket approach problem. I have naturally very high BP. Very high. No combo of diet & exercise has ever nudged it, and no medication so far has, either. Will I keel over some day from a heart attack or stroke? Maybe. Maybe not. All I know is that so far, there's nothing out there that will lower my BP to a "normal" range. Thus, I've given up on trying, because at this rate,I'm fairly sure the stress of trying to wrangle it is worse for me than the high BP alone. Maybe some day I'll stumble on something that amazes me and works, maybe never. I'm ok with that though because we're all different.
I think a lot more medical progress is going to be made once tailored medical approaches to each patient are common place. It's still a relatively new approach, so we have a long way to go before a treatment for an ailment is literally tailored to our specific genetics and is no longer blanket-approach.
What is your normal heart rate? Does your blood pressure go down when you lay down?
No idea for either anymore rickymouse, I quit paying attention that closely. My dad had a quadruple bypass a decade or so ago, so I know that's still a heart health complication possibility for me someday, too, though at last cholesterol check, mine was considered fine. For my dad, his cholesterol has always been his enemy, his BP was fine. Me, the cholesterol is fine, but my BP is the enemy.
A low-sodium diet that was suggested I try was a disaster for me, for what it's worth. Too little of the stuff seems to spike my BP further as if I was eating the whole salt shaker.

The reason I asked is that the symptoms you are talking about, even in this post, could be used to show you have hypovolemia or low blood volume. If you can't make blood cells at full rate, you can wind up with low blood volume. If you do drink fluids, you either get anemic with this or pee or sweat more. I have had this condition since my teens and maybe before. I have the classic symptom of tachycardia though, but all you need is heart rate around 90. The only time my heart rate is below a hundred is when I lay down, it is usually one ten to one twenty. My blood pressure will always be high, I was told that around forty years ago by a doctor. I have had all kinds of tests for this over the years, they come out as tachycardia with unknown origin. My inability to make red blood cells was also documented at least four or five times by different doctors and a person who took blood donations from me. I was told never to be talked into donating blood again.
This doesn't mean you have hypovolemia, it just is a possible reason for your high BP and need for salt. With hypovolemia, two secondary conditions can be there, hyponatremia and hypoglycemia because of reduced blood in circulation. Levels will show normal but that means nothing when there is lower blood volume. BP changing when laying or sitting is one way to test for this. Also getting dizzy if you get up too fast is common.
rickymouse, if a store's BP & heart rate machine is acceptable for a reading, I'll try to remember to use one next time we go out and let you know the numbers. In the meantime, I'll try to pay closer attention to how I feel going up & down the stairs in the house (2 flights of them... < sigh > The novelty has long-since worn off) and after laying down, ect and let you know that too. After googling hypovolemia, it's interesting to note that meds for hypertension essentially stagnate it or even make it worse. The things that make you go "Hm, now that's interesting."

The Beta blockers I was given, five different types, had bad side effects and did nothing.
No tools needed for heart rate, just look at a clock and count the beats in fifteen seconds feeling the pulse on your wrist. Multiply that by four.
They even did testing on people with a high heart rate and found people with high heart rates are more honest. Now where did they get the inkling to test an association like that. My normal body temperature is 97F That is another issue which requires certain things.
Dark Chocolate, Cabernet Savoniogn a cup a day, garlic ginger raw honey apple cider vinegar should solve any heart issues guava fruit for palpatations, if I can think of anymore I'll let you know , o organic virgin coconut oil a tablespoon in the am and that will eliminate the arthosclerosis in the arteries
I understand how the garlic and onions clean the arteries, I understand how chocolate moderates blood pressure. I understand how honey can help with this problem in moderation. But why the walnuts? I know brazil nuts contain a lot of magnesium but it is bound and little is actually absorbed.
