FERGUSON, Mo. (CBS12) -- Some crowds turned to violence after Prosecutor Robert McCulloch announced the grand jury had decided not to indict Officer Darren Wilson in the shooting death of Michael Brown Monday.
While covering the protests, a St. Louis news crew came upon a chaotic scene in a parking lot.
An elderly man dependent on oxygen was reportedly attacked and run over during a car jacking in the parking lot of Faraci Pizza on Florissant in Ferguson.
In the video, you can hear witnesses tell the news reporter an elderly male was attacked, car jacked, and then run over with his own car.
One witness said the unidentified victim went to his car to get his new oxygen tank when the thugs attacked him with it.
The St. Louis news crew who captured the entire event on camera made a plea to their news station to dial 911.
Medics eventually arrived to the scene and transported the man to the hospital, STLToday.com reports.
St. Louis County Police Chief Jon Belmar did confirm the incident.
Sadly, it doesn't surprise me a bit. In fact, it only surprises me that there wasn't more of it.
I was worried for the safety of people trying to cover that in more than one instance, where I don't believe they realized quite how far from the 'main group' they'd wandered and HOW dangerous an area that can really be. Especially with so many being out there at night representing the worst of St Louis as well as cities beyond.
It's a real sad story..but then, so is the story of St Louis in some similar ways.
This one is troubling because I can't eve stretch to find some meaning behind it. Attacks on government buildings as sources of oppression? I can see the thinking. Looting? Sure, it's free stuff, simple greed can explain it. Even stealing a car puts the rioters one car ahead of where they were.
But running over the old man? I can't find a reason. Could he have been White and the victim of "The Knockout Game" taken to a new level? Are they insane? Have they become, temporarily at least, animals?
This, like the situation with ISIS, makes me think there are some times when talk, reason, and appeals can accomplish nothing. I don't like that thought. The government has the bigger guns. Will they use them? I don't think so, but I wish they'd let us know what their plan "B" is.
I think people are confusing a protest with the lowest level of gutter running scumbags that make a living by being predators to their fellow man.
The protest by angry citizens simply attracted the jackals...like chum in the water attracting sharks. How often do the animals get prey entering their world, late at night, totally unaware of how much danger they are in, if caught away from the crowd, and carrying plenty to make the effort profitable? I guess that isn't common in St Louis, as the locals are all aware of how many years (not that long ago) the area scored "Murder Capital of the United States". The man is lucky they allowed him to live, to be honest... Missouri is a death penalty state and the Capital unit in St Louis stays quite busy....unfortunately.
Human depravity knows no bounds...and to the contrary of some folks thinking? Not everyone can be saved, or even deserves an effort to try. Anyone who would victimize a handicapped person and steal what they depend on to live....deserves to forfeit their own freedom at a MINIMUM and has earned absolutely no sympathy from anyone, for anything.
The protests have attracted these people, like they attracted the good people who went for the right reasons. Unfortunately. the predators tend to win...as good people simply can't resist on the level scumbags operate.
