Of all the nations in this world, there is not one I would be less likely to trust than the nut house that is modern day North Korea. They seem confused by this reaction in the West tho...
Now a reasonable person might wonder how we couldn't see the issue with dual use tech to a striving nuclear power (Who still hasn't had a single normal yield detonation to prove they even have a warhead yet). This guy's statement a bit later explains how, from this rather interesting perspective, it should be perfectly obvious why space tech would never be needed in military efforts there.
Umm... erm.... huh? Is he in a different reality than everyone else? Do they figure saying it often enough will magically make it so? I think nuclear weapons are the ultimate 'pics or it didn't happen' claim, in so far as the claim without proof by a nation state is no claim at all. Its wishful thinking. When they pop a firecracker at a level which looks like they meant to do that...I may get a bit concerned, as Japan will surely get VERY concerned.
Until then??

I'd just note this is CNN, and they are out on the pointy end of the propaganda war......waged against US. So, hearing this 'sunshine and lollipop' B.S. about a nation and leader that is still throwing relatives through wood chippers, into dog pens and shooting them with A.A. guns? Hey..there is nothing peaceful to even consider looking at here. There is a psycho with weapons far too dangerous to just go spank him...but he damn sure can't be left unsupervised for any length of time.
"We are trying to develop a peaceful space program but the Western media say it is a program in disguise but it is actually aimed at improving ballistic missile technology in order to develop long-range missiles."
When pressed on the issue that such launches inevitably benefit the missile program, he laughed in exasperation -- the only time in the interview that his face showed any emotion.
"I do not understand," he told us. "You are talking of two different things. We do understand that the same technology applies to two different areas: a military one, long-range ballistic missiles, or simply a rocket to carry a satellite into orbit.

According to Hyon, the military did not need the help of the space program.
"Our military is already fully equipped with delivery systems with warheads on rockets to target military objectives anywhere in the world. On that point, I assure you that we are fully equipped and have perfected that technology."

As the interview ended, Yun made a direct appeal to the U.S. public to "trust us." He added: "We will succeed in this. Success will come from our own efforts, without the help of others. The West is too suspicious about our program. If you won't trust us, at least drop the sanctions. Don't stop us from moving forward."
