This seemed to be the approach the political head of New York State recently chose to take in a round of the 'blame game' which the NWS and professionals in the field just weren't in the mood to tolerate this time. In fact, they made something of a fool out of him...but then, do politicians stop and notice or just move on to the next disaster they can create?
It sounds neat, and in the true traditions of our political class, even a storm brings a 'Throw money at it! ! !' solution. Then again, what doesn't these days? However, in this case? Governor Cuomo seems woefully ignorant of this topic, and he probably needs to fire his advisers and hire a few who passed a real science class or two between political science ones.
Cuomo seems to claim the weather forecasters got it all wrong, and so, naturally, there is a major crisis here to be fixed! ...or not.
Oops... Don't ya hate it when that happens? You make a big argument, a big public stand and a big fool of yourself...just to find a few moments reading would have prevented it?
Err... These are politicians tho, and nothing they do can ever...ever...be wrong. They doubled down and decided to hold. (rolls eyes)

It seems we'll see millions wasted and another redundant system built to layer atop yet more redundant systems which all do a half way decent job already....so a politician can say, in the end, he was mightier than nature for prediction of unpredictable conditions.
Just another day in paradise. :)
** New York..you elected this moron??
Gov. Andrew Cuomo wants New York to create the nation's best weather monitoring system, one more robust than even the National Weather Service and more capable of predicting events like the snowstorm that buried parts of the Buffalo area under 7 feet of snow.
But although Cuomo's $18.7 million initiative will help the state respond to events like floods or wildfires, it's unlikely to live up to his grander expectations, meteorologists say.

Cuomo picked a fight with the weather service following the storm in Buffalo, saying the federal agency failed to predict its intensity and timing. His comments prompted meteorologists Al Roker and Jim Cantore to defend the accuracy and precision of the weather service's forecasts.
The day before the storm hit, the agency correctly predicted a "historic" storm that would bring feet of snow and localized snowfall rates of 3 to 5 inches per hour.
"Seems like (Cuomo's) folks didn't look" at the forecasts, Roker tweeted.

A Cuomo spokesman disputed the claims from meteorologists, saying the system "will absolutely provide for a far more advanced forecasting system."
