I've been a fan of CBs since the 70s craze and have a fair collection of old CB equipment. When I moved out to the sticks almost 20 years ago I had a mobile hooked up in the car to monitor traffic and road conditions on the frequent trips I was taking back and forth to the city back then. In my rural area, there wasn't much activity on the air so after a while I didn't bother to use it and put the radio away. I kept my gear because I felt it would come in handy in a SHTF or emergency scenario. Back then I figured things wouldn't be heating up until sometime around 2010 to 2013, so my prepper activities stayed on hold while I tried to live out here and eek out a living.
Well, things seems to be headed quickly toward the SHTF now a days for sure, my estimates on when this would occur seem pretty accurate so far IMO. So last year I pulled out the equipment and finally put up a base antenna I had that was never even out of the box yet. I have been on the air since last year and have even been monitoring VHF and UHF frequencies as well.
With all the chatter in the survival and prepper world about two ways and ham radios I began an in depth study of what would be the best way to go, licensed ham operator or unlicensed CBs and other frequencies. I've come to the conclusion that the unlicensed route was better with respect to networking with the most people when the lights finally go out. To that end I put up a simple website on a free server with links to many articles and guidelines for an unlicensed network I call the Michigan Citizens Band Radio Network. I cover citizens band, family radio service, multi-use radio service and ad hoc WiFi networking, basically everything you can do without a license to stay connected.
It is very comprehensive for a simple 3 page website. The first page is an introduction with links to many useful articles. The second page is the guidelines for the network I'm trying to put together, and the third page is the contact page. Below is the intro from the first page.
Note: I'm not selling anything, just getting the word out by offering information and promoting the network before things go south. Here is the link to the website. MCBRN
I'd like anyone who is interested in prepping and survival to have a look and give me some feedback. Basically I'm trying to reach that group under the guise of a Michigan based CBer club/group, but the underlying purpose is to help people communicate without big brother getting wise. With all the spying and lack of privacy these days, a network like this can keep you off the government radar as long as you don't get their attention by blatantly bad mouthing big brother or talking about anti-government plans, etc. It's just a CB club (wink).
Thanks for any replies in advance.
