Just popping in to say hello. Know I've been gone for a bit and probably had some of you worried. I'd been having problems with a shoulder for months up until I went poof here that just kept getting worse and worse to the point where I was being woken all night due to extreme pain every single freaking night. Then one night, my arm totally locked up by my side. I've been doing physical therapy for the last 7 weeks and have had enough improvement to actually be on the computer for a little longer than before.
On top of that, had some family issues and a quasi personal crisis explode on me so there was that, too. One of those things caused me a great deal of introspection and an urge to retreat from many communications. I've been going through a personal crisis now for 4 years and the realities and discoveries are sometimes quite brutal. The irony is that I seem to have things fall onto my lap when I least expect it or when I think that I've reached the end of the road where I'm not going to find anything more. It's kind of like dating--you never know when and where you're going to meet that somebody special but in this case, those somebody specials always seem to be the bad boyfriends. :) Pondering talking about the latest thing that I've stumbled across because, in this particular case, it's not likely to just have affected me. It's pretty darn sobering.
Well, you're family here, so anything we can do to help, just let me know.
On the medical side, if you need more physical therapy or have issues, let me know and I can contact a local hospital in your area.
I'm good on that so far. My PT is actually really pretty great and I'm scheduled for more PT over the next few months. The problem with my shoulder typically takes 1-2 years to reach full recovery but my PT said that what ails me is making it different. I don't know if that's a good thing or a bad thing but I'm guessing that it's probably not a good thing.
@solarius,
Yep. Been totally wiped out and pondering a whole lot. Sorry that I worried you all with my abrupt exit. I just have had a whole lot to chew on lately.

I hate when things like that happen with me. I found that when a similar thing happens to me it is a pinched nerve. I usually found relief when I went to the chiropractor, I don't know how he fixed it in one visit, but he did. Most chiropractors seem to drag out fixing you for months, avoiding the site giving you problems. Get a good chiropractor though and he fixes it right away. These kinds of chiropractors are not very busy, you can't get rich if you fix people right away. But their customers are loyal. I wish my chiropractor didn't retire, I liked stopping in and getting a quick fix when I needed it.
I don't know if this is related to your exact problem but I do know I went a few months with the cold burny ache in my shoulder and the therapies did not fix it. One or two adjustments and it was gone with the chiropractor.
I don't know how or why it worked, just that it worked. My daughter knows pressure points that can help on the upper shoulders too, she took three years of special Yoga class in India and she is good friends with a Massage specialist who has a business here. Hey, if something works, why question it.
Hope you start feeling better. Just because the chiropractor worked on my shoulder pain almost immediately, I would say I went there five or six times for that over the last twenty five years, doesn't mean you have the same thing. But it is worth looking into. The pinched nerve triggers muscles to get stuck on sometimes, that was what was happening in my case. Magnesium suplementation can help a little, but can't solve the problem. Soaking your feet in epsom salts or magnesium chloride can fix things all over the body. A quarter cup of salts max is all that is needed, you do not need a lot. They just want to make us waste more epsom salts so we buy more.

My shoulder is frozen and I have RA and lupus apparently. Both of which are making a mess of my recovery. Pretty frustrating. The pain isn't so much these days. I can keep it pretty dim. My PT actually gave me a massage last week because the inflammation under my shoulder blade was just knotting everything up. It was so nice...lol :)
I'm definitely having nerve impingement problems. You're spot on there. I've got arthritis basically inflaming all the nerve canals and causing stenosis. It's been a total blast, lol. I have to get with my rheumatologist again soon so I'll definitely ask about whether a chiropractor could do a few things or not. Really beyond sick of this stuff, lol.
Oh Alice so sorry, I had that, I used Yoga seldom have problems now, if you are interested look up videos on yoga for shoulder pain,
I did the same thing for carpal tunnel, yoga and ice
Oh, I'm so sorry that you had this. It's awful, isn't it? My PT was saying the other day that I'm losing the muscle mass in the small muscles under my shoulder so that's just making things grander. Feeling pretty wimpy.
Been doing some stretches that are on the Yoga side along with my daily PT exercises. We're working on a "game plan" as the PT found some other abnormalities so that I've got a total body thing going. I bet you anything, it's going to be yoga in the end as many of my joints are having some stabilization issues. Saying that kind of makes me feel like I'm going to fall apart at any second. lol

My sister had RA and her joints were all messed up. She creaked when she walked. My brother has Ankelosing spondelitis but it has not been active since he quit taking the calcium supplements. My cousin had Lupus, it actually led to his demise over years of problems.
I had my genes done and I have the genetics for all three but if I do not consume the foods that trigger autoimmunity, I will not have a problem. Foods high in calcium, are not good for me, when I was taking a calcium supplement, I got blobs all over the place on my bones. The doctor asked me if I have been doing anything different and I told him I was taking a calcium supplement for about six months. He told me that my body was storing it, so to quit taking it. I did and it took three years for all the bumps to go away. I warned my brother, but he said the calcium made him feel good. Within a year he grew bones where they are not supposed to be and the doctors are still trying to talk him into killing his immune system with one shot even though the bone growths are slowly going away since he quit taking the calcium. Milk can trigger autoimmune issues by allowing not properly digested proteins to pass through the gut, triggering excessive macrophage buildup. Also egg white and wheat can do this. They can agrevate these to happen. A little milk occasionally is not a problem, same with egg whites and a little wheat flour. It is the albumin that does this, there is albumin in lots of things.
I wish I knew what I know now when my sister was alive, I could probably have helped her somewhat. The genes that trigger these autoimmune diseases do not need to be expressed and cause problems. But with all the articles I have read on these things, I still cannot properly find a solution. We actually need to eat some bread and milk is a very good medicine for lots of things. Eggs have some of the most amazing properties. I guess it is moderation that should be observed and also too much carbs can cause excitation. Avoiding some things like alum in pickles and some cheeses helps because alum can boost the production of antigens.
I can't tell you what to eat or give up, I can only give you options of what to try to see if they reduce the symptoms. Lupus is not fun, my cousin lost some fingers five years before he died. Avoiding histamine foods is a way to help, bananas are a strong histamine, the white potato is a better choice for potassium. Bread is very high in calcium, check the nutrition databases. Calcium is necessary but too much is not good, especially if your body wants to store it for a rainy day.
By the way, was the PT a cute guy?

whitealice, I missed chatting with you in the shoutbox and seeing your posts. I'm so sorry to hear that you are having such a bad time medically. I hope that you and your doctors figure it all out and can get you back to feeling better soon. We'll be here with the door unlocked and the lights on, as has been mentioned by others, when you are able to come spend more time with us, or just when you are able to pop in for a few minutes here and there. We'll be happy to have you here either way.
