The article I found describes him as a deep longshot, and I think that is just downright optimistic.
"Earlier, I said let's be bold," he said from George Mason University in Virginia. "Here's a bold embrace of internationalism: Let's join the rest of the world and go metric. I happened to live in Canada. And they've completed the process. Believe me, it's easy. It doesn't take long before 34 degrees is hot. Only Myanmar, Liberia and the United States aren't metric, and it will help our economy."
Of all the idiocy I've heard of from the "Why NOW?!" category, this takes the cake. There are still metric signs in Alabama and Arizona before they gave up on the concept of having a nation, largely challenged with basic math, successfully rethink the whole standards of life and measurement.
He won't even be an 'also-ran' with this. He'll be the Court Jester of the DNC.
Asked why metric during a question-and-answer session after his address, the candidate, who's campaign platform is focusing in on the Iraq war, said the switch would be "a symbolic integration of ourselves in the international community after the mistakes" of the last 10 to 15 years. He also insisted that the economic cost of a system change would be "outweighed" by the economic and symbolic benefits.
Oh.... yeah..I see. So this is another one of those 'pay now, save later' plans.
As if these plans are a regular success when handled by the Government? He'll be lucky to make it to the primaries before being shoved right out of the race, I predict.
